Holy & Blameless

Ephesians 1:4 NASB95
4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love
God chose us! But for what purpose? To what end did He choose us?
It is quite clear in verse 4 that the product, the end result of our salvation would be our holiness & blamelessness.
God did not choose us or save us for no purpose.
What does God ask of us as Christians? Do we get to use salvation as our get out of jail-free card and then live however we want?
The Bible is very clear on this: God chose us for salvation so that we would become more like Christ.
Tonight I want to look at three main words or phrases and how they work out in these verses.
God wants us to be blameless.
God wants us to be holy.
We need to recognize our Christian life is lived before Him.
First of all, blameless. What does blameless mean? It literally means without spot, or wrinkle, or blemish. It means there is nothing on the outside to see that is wrong.
If we use fruit as an example, we pick fruit based on the outside appearance don’t we? We look for bruising and discoloration. We look for obvious signs that there has been damage in shipping or some other cause.
So, blamelessness is an exterior thing. It is an external purity. It means that with any degree of certainty that no one can lay a charge of blame on you about something that they can see on the outside.
