Sermon Tone Analysis

*Three*

With the number three, we have our first geometric figure.

With two straight lines, you are unable to make a two-dimensional object, but with three lines, you can form the most basic of two-dimensional figures – a triangle.

The simplest form of a three-dimensional object is a cube.

So when you see three, you see within it something complete, solid, and real.

In time, we see three divisions: past, present and future.

In grammar, we refer to ourselves as me, myself and I.

The sum of our humanity is comprised in thought, word and deed.

The three kingdoms of matter are animal, vegetable and mineral.

I want us to see the simpleness of God’s word and His plan for our lives today.

We spoke Wednesday where Jesus made the statement that unless we come as little children, we will never enter God’s kingdom.

Scriptures teach that the most profound scholars and theologians are at a lost when it comes to the wisdom and knowledge found in God’s word.

I’ve said many times that God does things on purpose.

We mentioned that God created truth about sowing and reaping in the very first chapter of Genesis.

Faith is something that is not a “spiritual only” teaching, but something that bears weight in any circumstance.

Catch the simpleness of these three points today.

*1.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit*

Luke 3:21-22 /When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too.

And as he was praying, heaven was opened  and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove.

And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”/

We can understand to the extent of our humanity these Three.

Father God is our Creator.

Scriptures give us a visual picture of Him seated on the Throne of Heaven.

Lucifer made it his objective to be higher than God and to take over His position of authority.

Sin has no place in His presence.

God is the ultimate authority in all creation.

Jesus is God in the flesh, called Immanuel in Matthew 1:23.

He was sent from the Father to this world as the perfect sacrifice for sin.

Jesus lived and taught in bodily form in the midst of sin, to bring relationship back to the Father with mankind.

Jesus was in the beginning as seen in John 1, His word is eternal and brings life and light to our lives.

He sparked a change in how we viewed and interacted and understand God as one person, enlarged by 12 named followers, and multiplied many times over throughout this world.

Jesus is our Savior, our Redeemer and our soon coming King.

In John 20:17, Jesus warned Mary not to lay hold of him because he had not yet returned to the Father, and in Acts 1:4-5, Jesus told the disciples to             wait in Jerusalem until they received the promised baptism in the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit was first shown in the scripture we read a few minutes ago as a dove descending on Jesus.

A few times before scriptures show where the Holy Spirit came on believers and they prophesied or praised God or prayed, but now that Jesus had returned to the Father, the Holy Spirit was a gift that was promised to all who believe.

John 14:16, /26 //And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you./

Body, Soul and Spirit*

We’ve recently talked in our faith walk about body, soul and spirit.

Our bodies are our contact with the physical world in which we live.

Our bodies represent what is internal.

Our bodies oftentimes challenge the other two aspects of our being and overcome them because the results are tangible; we can easily see them.

Our soul is the contact we have with the intellectual realm.

We have minds that are barely even used and can create and imagine the most intricate of details.

Some victories and some downfalls are contributable to our mental state due to the brain’s strengths or its weaknesses.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

An idle mind is the devil’s playground.

Bring your thoughts into captivity under Christ.

The last thing in this point is our spirit.

Our spirit is our connection to eternity; to the afterlife; to God Himself.

Our spirit desires what is of God.

The decisions we make in our bodies and in our minds will determine whether our spirits one day will be forever in God’s presence, or forever separated from Him.

Our body, soul and spirit is the closest understanding that we can have of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.

Repentance, Baptism and the Holy Spirit*

Act 2:38-39  /Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.

And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”/

John 14:15-17  /If you love me, you will obey what I command.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.

The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him.

But you know him, for he lives with you and will be  in you./

When the Spirit draws you into relationship with God, the first thing you must do is repent of sins.

Sin cannot be in God’s presence, can’t be blessed, and will not be heard.

Repentance causes your body to confess Jesus as Lord, your mind to believe and become justified, and your spirit to be reunited with God.

Baptism once again is symbolic of dying to self and this world and its desires, being buried with Christ, and rising again with Christ to overcome the devil and his lies.

When we fall into obedience to Christ’s example, the Bible simply states that the Holy Spirit is ours to accept.

It is not a difficult thing to grasp since the Word teaches us this.

God’s plan for us is simple.

He laid it out in such a manner that anyone could receive and teach the Gospel.

God is in this house today.

He is the ultimate of perfection.

He created you as He is; body, soul and spirit.

His plan for renewed relationship is repentance, baptism and the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

Today is the day of salvation, now is the accepted time.
