We all have different names, titles, nicknames, etc.  Dad, pastor, brother, son, grandson, friend, counselor, speaker, salesman, grocer, cleaning person, lawn care provider, maintenance man…

Jesus asked in Matthew 16:15, “Who do men say that I am?”

I believe that God wrote His word on purpose…in a particular order…

ELOHIM – God, in the plural, meaning more than two.  He is creator, preserver, transcendent (beyond and outside the ordinary range of human experience or understanding), mighty, and strong.

          Appears in the Old Testament more that 2500 times, 32 times in    Genesis 1, which only has 31 verses.

ADONAI – (ă-dō-nāy) means Lord, Master, i.e., a title of the true God with a focus on the authority and majesty of a ruler .  Daniel 9:2 (Message) says I turned to the Master God, asking for an answer—praying earnestly, fasting from meals, wearing rough penitential burlap, and kneeling in the ashes. I poured out my heart, baring my soul to God, my God.  Psalm 114:7 (NIV) says to tremble, oh earth, at the presence of the Lord.  When Moses was instructed of God to confront Pharaoh, he called said, “Oh, my Lord….I am not eloquent of speech…”

EL SHADDAI – God Almighty or God All Sufficient.  Gen 17:1-2 God appeared to Abram (99 years old), changed his name to Abraham, and promised him seed innumerable...through Isaac….Job 22:23 If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored… (Job calls God Almighty 31 times through his trial.)  how many times have you referred to God as Almighty in a storm?

JEHOVAH or LORD (all capitals) Yahweh…the self-existent or eternal, used first in Gen 2:4 with ELOHIM to show total supremacy.  Also, I AM, as seen in Exodus 3 where God manifest himself in a burning bush to instruct Moses to go to Pharaoh to have the Israelites released from bondage.

JEHOVAH JIREH - The Lord will provide.  Gen 22:14 Abraham was confident that God would provide a sacrifice and he would not have to sacrifice Isaac.  When has he ever provided for you?  Remember the loaves and fish; the coin in the fish’s mouth; Elijah and fire from Heaven; the Israelites and the opening of the Red Sea; Peter walking out of prison;

JEHOVAH ROPHE (RAPHA) – The Lord Who Heals Ex 15 (Moses) bitter water, piece of wood, drinkable; 2 Chr 7:14 will heal their land; Isa 61:1-2 “The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,”  the ten lepers; man at the pool in Bethesda; Mark 8:23 tells of Jesus spitting on a man’s eyes and they being opened…

JEHOVAH NISSI - The Lord our Banner.  Ex 17:15 Moses was in battle and Aaron and Hur lifted up his hands and the Israelites were victorious in battle because of the obedience to God’s simple command

JEHOVAH M’KADDESH – The Lord Who Sanctifies.  Lev 20:8 You must sanctify yourselves and be holy, for I am holy.

JEHOVAH SHALOM – The Lord our Peace.  Philippians 4:7 the peace that passes all understanding.

JEHOVAH TSIDKENU – The Lord our Righteousness from Jeremiah 23:5-6; 2 Corinthians 5:21 “God made him who had no sin to be sin  for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

JEHOVAH SHAMMAH – The Lord is There.  Ezekiel 48:35 the name of that city from that time on will be JEHOVAH SHAMMAH, speaking of Heaven.  But, as ambassadors of Heaven, we have available to us 24/7, Jesus Christ, of whom all things have been given and before whom every knee will bow!!!

YESHA (Y’shua) – Savior Isaiah 43:3

But what we need to focus on is this; as we seek God’s face; as we search for relationship with him with no personal “needs” in mind; as we long to see him as he is, we without reference receive all that he is and has and does.  The Bible says in Psalm 105:4 “Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.”
