1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: My God; in him will I trust.
When Pastor Frank reached out to me several months ago, while in that conversation, I felt God speak a single word to me; Covering.
Since then I can’t get away from this word!
Title: I’m Covered
Covering!
We understand this word in our society very well!
Cover letters, cover page, cover up, and when we are cold, we cover up!
It’s a beautiful biblical principle found first in Genesis and is interwoven into every book of the Bible!
Mercy seat was covered by cherubs
Holy Place was covered by a vail
High Priest covered Israel
Gold covered the tabernacle furniture, skins covered the tabernacle, tabernacle covered Israel
In the NT
Sins and transgressions are covered
Covered by His blood and His Spirit
Covered by prayer
Our hair is our covering
Husband covers his family
Jesus covers the husband, husband covers the wife, wife covers the children
Jesus covers the pastor, pastor covers the local assembly, local assembly covers the family
I’m Covered!!
No place in all the Word better illustrates this than Psalms 91!
For those that live in the secret place of the Almighty shall will abide UNDER the shadow of the Almighty!
The Almighty is my refuge, fortress
And I trust him implicitly!
I will be delivered from the tricks of the enemy
I will be delivered from pestilence
I am covered because I trust in in Him
I have no fear
I subdue and defeat my enemies
I stand in league with the Angelic host
The lion and snake are under me
His love is on me, I am delivered by Him
He answers me
Salvation is MINE!
I am COVERED!
What is covering? Protection and empowerment!
From Adam and Eve’s covering in the Garden
Noah being covered by Grace
Job, Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Moses, The Judges, David
All these and so many more were men covered by a Devine covering!
BUT something happens in the New Testament...
The Gospels open telling the birth, life, death and resurrection of the Jesus Christ.
The Book of Acts opens with an outpouring from above that would protect an empower them as never before!
They are the fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy when he told them to go back to Jerusalem and wait until the power comes!
Scholars believe that Psalms 91 was written by Moses after entering into the Tabernacle for the first time!
Overwhelmed by the power of God
This man who know what it was to stand in the presence of God to the point of covering himself with a vail...
Would write about going into the tabernacle for the first time…
Yet Moses have no idea what it would be like to become the tabernacle!
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Psalms 91 is written in future tense...
You will tread on the lion, adder and dragon!
Future victories.
John speaks of past victories!
You have overcome the world!
Transition:
As beautiful and thankful as I am to be covered by his blood, filled with His Sprint...
Just like there was something greater happening that day on the Day of Pentecost than what Moses experienced…
The outpouring of the Holy Ghost was about more than individuals having their sins covered!
What was taking place was the formation of the vehicle that would carry salvation to all men!
What was happening that day was a framework was being built that would fulfill the purpose of God!
It’s what Jesus told Peter; Upon the Rock, I will build my church!
The church that he bought with his OWN BLOOD!
As beautiful as the world is...
As amazing as the animal kingdom is…
As complex as the human body is...
God’s most amazing creation was and is the CHURCH
Church is the greatest covering God ever created!
The structure the Holy Ghost works in.
Every structure has a access point.
As Jesus was the door to salvation, preaching is the access point to the church!
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
So preaching is access to the Church
Which is access to the Holy Ghost
Which is the greatest covering of protection and empowerment of all time!
Never second guess the power of preaching!
It is not JUST access to the covering, it IS covering!
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
Instant: stand over
Those that cover are the preachers in your life!
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
These five offices cover the church
By perfecting, doing the work of the ministry and edifying.
First: Protecting -- medical term - setting bones
Second: Work of Ministry — to bring to the table - presentation - pouring into
Third: Edifying the body of Christ — Process of building, construction
Pastor and Sis. Frank:
Your “job” is not to council - although you will do a lot of that in the years to come.
You not just the preacher
Your not just the theologian interpreting scripture
Your not the friend - although you will have friends here
Your not just the one who visits the sick
Your not just the painter of walls, vacuumer of carpets or cleaner of bathrooms
You are the covering of the for every individual in the church!
You are the covering for this city!
