Studies show that America has been long dealing with issues with self-worth. When people think little of themselves, it impacts how they see life, operate in every facet of their lives, and ultimately how they see GOD. Because of the standards and pressure the world puts on the world, particularly concerning what the world sees as perfection versus defection, many are sucked into that pattern of thinking and begin striving for a perfection totally sourced in pleasing the world and themselves. When that deceptive image isn’t met, it discourages, disdains, and can defeat an individuals mind, making them despair life itself. But it is only when one fully realizes that they were Made by GOD and Made for GOD that those deceptive standards and pressures are removed, unleashing us to live in the worth the worth that GOD views us in Christ Jesus.
P 139 is really a song of complaint. Meaning its intent is to cry out for God’s help to deal with wicked, oppositional, and oppressive enemies. But that’s not immediately recognized in the beginning and bulk of this Psalm. Because David delays his complaint for getting consumed in the omniscience of GOD (v 1-6) and omnipresence of GOD (v 7-12) in relation to his life. Then he highlights the fact that GOD made every spec of who he is, and he attentively plans every step of his life. When one does that, it causes us to greatly appreciate how GOD created me, and think less of the miniscule thoughts of humanity.
Made by GOD
David affirms for himself and acknowledges to GOD that his presence is everywhere he is. Then he follows with his reason, and that is because GOD is the architect of everything inside of him. He then gives GOD all the credit for what occurred in his mother’s womb.
Extraordinarily made
He is proclaiming an undeniable reality for himself that GOD is the one who made him. When he considers that fact, he says I have to fix my lips, get my entire being in a mode or habit of always appreciating GOD for making him. More than that, he highlights how he was made. That’s what makes him want to praise GOD all the more. He says “for I am fearfully and wonderfully made”. He makes it personal. And considering the wonder and amazement of how he was made, he could only describe it with reverence and amazement.
Application: The next time you look in the mirror, and begin despising something about yourself, because of what whatsa name nem said about you, or because the world thinks low of your race, your gender, etc. Remind yourself like David, that “I was made extraordinarily”. What GOD did when he made me was nothing less than “that’s off the chain”. And I am the only me that GOD made me!!
My brain processes more signals than any computer in the world. There are millions of electrical signals moving from my brain, spinal cord, and all over my body, and my nerves can handle all of the electricity!! There are chemicals working inside of me to move the food I ate yesterday to each organ. GOD designed a 22 foot long tube in my body that makes all that I ate flow. My heart pumps around 100,000 times a day to make 1.5 pounds of blood flow throughout my body, animating life in me. I have a unique dna, that identifies me as Laron Evans! There is nobody else on the face of the planet with the exact same dna identification. GOD, I am fearfully and wonderfully fashioned by you!! For you do nothing less than wonderful, and when I look in the mirror, I will give you praise for your wonderful design!!
Skillfully made
David not only considers the amazement and wonder of how GOD made him, but also how skillfully he was made. A process no human sees, yet GOD sees and crafts every detail.
Application: We have sonograms now, which give us an image of what’s happening or what might potentially happen with our bone structure. Other than that, it is a concealed process. Yet it is apparent that each of us was put together skillfully. The fact that our entire skeletal structure is connected like a house structure, evidence of the skill. Some of us have long legs, small feet, etc. Each was fashioned masterfully. Somebody might joke about your foot size, but you respond with “Look at God’s skill”. My pops used to say “head is big for knowledge”, and knowledge comes from GOD.
Made for GOD
David not only praises the fact he was Made by GOD, but also for GOD.
Fully planned
He says the record of his life were written in God’s book before he took his first breath in or outside the womb.
Application: The record of a persons life is typically written during or after they’ve lived. But GOD had our biography before hand, and it’s in his book. He holds our plans. There is nothing you will do that GOD wasn’t already aware of. It was already part of his plan. When people say: You gone forever be this. You ain’t gone amount to nothing. Never change. Respond, Only GOD has my master plan!
Continually thought about
Lastly, David speaks highly of the mind of GOD. His thoughts are of high value and uncountable!
Application: There are times when people give no thought about you, me, your life situations. Sometimes that gets us down. But we don’t have to let it. Because God always thinks about us. Not just about, but his thoughts navigate our lives. Don’t give people that power, relegating your worth and image to what others think or don’t think.
Conclusion: When you look in the mirror, down from what others think, say, etc. Know assuredly for and remind yourself, I’m Made by GOD, and Made for GOD. Let that encourage you, as it did David, to where breaks out in praise!!
