*The Perfect Law Of Liberty*[1]**
/ /
*INTRODUCTION*:
1.     Read Text:  James 2:8-13.
2.     Regarding text:
(1)         James is saying, “There is not one thing wrong with fulfilling the “royal law” (i.e.
love your neighbor…), in fact it is a good thing, BUT if you are in the process showing /favoritism/ (respect the rich, disregard the poor), then you are committing sin.
(2)         Same law that tells you to “love you neighbors” (a law they were proud to know they were observing) is a law that condemns you when you only “love” your “rich neighbors.”
(3)         They were claiming to be “justified” by the law, because they treated their rich neighbors as they themselves would want to be treated, but they stumbled.
(4)         They claimed to be keeping all of the Law, but they were not.
A.       Maybe they were keeping the majority of the law, but once they look to the law as the source of their justification….
The same law turns right around and condemns them somewhere else.
B.       NOT = guilty of showing partiality therefore you are guilty of murder, adultery, etc.
C.       BUT = guilty of showing partiality = you are a law breaker.
3.     Illustration:  Sheep in pasture surrounded by a series of “sheep panels.”
If the lamb jumps over /one/ panel it is no longer within the confines of the panels.
The lamb need not jump over every single panel.
In like manner, when it comes to violating God’s law, disobedience puts you over the panel.
(1 Jn. 3:4)
4.     Read Gal.
4:28-5:1.
(1)         Context = slavery.
A.       Hagar represents the Law of Moses.
All children are in bondage.
B.       Sarah represents the gospel of Christ.
All children are free.
(2)         Your birthright (not your bloodline) will determine if you are slave or free.
(3)         Application:
A.       Is */religion/* in and of itself, freedom?
ANS = NO!  (Acts 17:22).
B.       Is */worship/* in and of itself, freedom?
ANS = NO! (Mt.
15:9; Jn. 4:24).
C.
Where then can true freedom be found?
ANS = true religion and true worship in conjunction with blood of Christ.
(a)       Jn.
8:32.
(b)       Mt.
7:21-23;  James 1:27.
5.     If you take nothing else from this lesson, I hope you take the realization that while you are saved by grace through  faith; and saved because you are washed in the blood of the lamb, and saved because you walk in the light… the */REAL LIBERTY OF CHRISTIANITY/* --
