Why we observe Good Friday

When the German army came marching through a small town in France, a group of people hid in the upstairs of a building. The Germans plundered the town and one soldier threw a grenade through the window into the room where this group was hiding.

In a matter of seconds, this grenade would explode and kill everyone in the room. Without a second thought, a young man threw himself on top of that granade. He was killed, but everyone else was spared.

Every year after that, the entire village would commemorate the death of this young man.
