Introduction
Jesus cried out with a loud voice Lazarus Come Out, and Lazarus Came out of the grave tied hand and foot with his face wrapped in a cloth. I think, Lazarus’ guardian angel must have picked him up alive, brought him out and stood him up at the entrance of the grave, and then Jesus said untie him and let him go.
Body
Before Jesus raised Lazarus, Martha was grieving and telling Jesus if you were here my brother wouldn’t have died, complaining, may be, but justified because she has faith to trust Jesus could have healed her brother, faith enough to even hint for a miracle, she says “but even know I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you” Jesus picks up on this and explores it in deeper dialog, He says your brother will rise; she says I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day. Then Jesus lays it all out; He says “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? She says, “Yes, Lord, I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God the one who is coming into the world.”.
Martha’s faith is remarkable, she has come to believe Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life, that is Jesus possessed in himself both the power to raise the dead and to grant eternal life, she trusts Jesus to hint for a miracle to raise her brother. There is a relationship between believing and trusting. For example, take a parachute, we believe that it is designed to slow down in a free fall so you can land safely. Now let’s say someone is in an airplane that is about to crash, but is afraid to jump with the parachute, he is not acting on what he knows and believes about a parachute, he is not trusting it.
Conclusion
As we live and believe in Jesus may the power of the holy spirit deepen our faith and trust in Jesus to keep us on the narrow path to life everlasting in heaven. To put our faith to work, help others in the journey and keep them off the broad road that leads to destruction. Faith and trust, to ask Jesus for those miracles the world so desperately for the Glory of God. Jesus loved Martha Mary and Lazarus; Jesus loves us the same, If we believe that then we can trust Jesus to do the same what is good, right and just for us, our families, our Church, our country, and the world for the Glory of God. Amen.
