Zechariah is a prophet to Judah during post exilic period.
The book is meant to be a source of great encouragement to a people whose hope is fading Ez 5:1.

Background to Text

The contains a series of vision and prophecies meant to stir the hearts of those who hear it.
Immediately after the visions is chapters 7. A Chapter of self examination.
As much as we examine to see the faithfulness of God, we need to do the same with our hearts.

Where is my heart in my actions?

Heart that is not perfect 2 Chr 25:1-2; 14
Heart that seeks praise - [Matt 6:3-6; 17-18]
Heart that seeks its own will 1 Sam 15:13-14

Where should my heart be?

Paul - Gal 2:20
Paul - 1 Cor 15:8
Jesus - Jn 8:29; Luke 22:42

Pleasing God

Ephesians 5:8–10 NASB95
for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
Colossians 1:10 NASB95
so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
1 Thessalonians 4:1 NASB95
Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more.
Keep this in mind when I do my work for God.
