Affirmations are statements (powerful words put together) that are meant to affect your behavior and the course of your life in a positive way.
Read Week 1 & 2
I am doing a great work
I am doing God’s work
I will not stop
I will not stop because insecurities
I will not stop because of fear and doubt
I will not stop because of unhealthy relationships
I will fulfill my purpose
God is my confidence
I am significant to God
My security is in God
Craig Groeschel “Your life goes in the direction of your strongest thoughts” - “What you think will determine what you will become”
You have to remind yourself!!!
I am doing a Great Work - Because I’m doing God’s work!
That’s why I’m passionate
That’s why I have to stay focused
No time for distraction
Three enemies - I want to talk about…
Our #1 Enemy is Satan -
1 Peter 5:8 ESV
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
The Bible calls him our adversary…
Adversary plaintiff (accuser) n. — the antagonistic and accusing party in litigation; especially understood as a hostile enemy.
Revelation reveals him as an accuser of the brothers and sisters!
News Flash Satan is still a beautiful angel - He beautiful with iniquity (Sin) in Him…
2 Corinthians 2:11 ESV
so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.
Satan’s #1 Job is to entice us…
James 1:13–14 ESV
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.
Then #2 Accuse us to God for our wrong doing!
Satan is relentless in his accusations—he accuses God’s children continually.
He hates God and all that God is, which means he also hates God’s mercy and forgiveness extended to sinful humanity.
#2 People
We have been dealing with Nehemiah for this series…
Nehemiah had opposition from three major people:
Sanballat - Tobiah - Geshem
Nehemiah 4:1–4 ESV
Now when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and greatly enraged, and he jeered at the Jews. And he said in the presence of his brothers and of the army of Samaria, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they restore it for themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish up in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, and burned ones at that?” Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “Yes, what they are building—if a fox goes up on it he will break down their stone wall!” Hear, O our God, for we are despised. Turn back their taunt on their own heads and give them up to be plundered in a land where they are captives.
This is crazy!!!
Why do people have so many questions about me?
People will have a perception about you (Feeble)
People will doubt your ability
And people will always have a co-signer (Tobiah) - Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “Yes, what they are building—if a fox goes up on it he will break down their stone wall!”
Nehemiah 6:1–2 ESV
Now when Sanballat and Tobiah and Geshem the Arab and the rest of our enemies heard that I had built the wall and that there was no breach left in it (although up to that time I had not set up the doors in the gates), Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come and let us meet together at Hakkephirim in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to do me harm.
It was his enemies that were trying to get him to come down…
They intended to do him harm…
People will have a motive to destroy you! - Satan also plays a major role in this process!
This is why affirmations are so important and need to be repeated!
Nehemiah 6:4 ESV
And they sent to me four times in this way, and I answered them in the same manner.
No matter how many times “my you” will try to stop me.... I will respond in the same manner…
Nehemiah 6:5–7 ESV
In the same way Sanballat for the fifth time sent his servant to me with an open letter in his hand. In it was written, “It is reported among the nations, and Geshem also says it, that you and the Jews intend to rebel; that is why you are building the wall. And according to these reports you wish to become their king. And you have also set up prophets to proclaim concerning you in Jerusalem, ‘There is a king in Judah.’ And now the king will hear of these reports. So now come and let us take counsel together.”
Have you ever dealt with someone and just couldn’t believe what they were saying?
Are you serious?
It is reported among the nations? Really? and Geshem also says it…
That you and the Jews intend to rebel…
That is why you are building the wall…
Don’t challenge my motives!
According to these reports that you have made up....
And you have also set up prophets to proclaim concerning you in Jerusalem, There is a king in Judah...... Wait..... Now I have a problem
You’re crossing the line.... Prophets and Kings I hold dear to my heart....
Nehemiah 6:8 ESV
Then I sent to him, saying, “No such things as you say have been done, for you are inventing them out of your own mind.”
“For you are inventing them out of your own mind”
Our number #1 enemy is the father (inventor) of Lies
John 8:44 ESV
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
#2 People will invent their own thoughts
#3 Our third enemy is ourselves…
I am guilty of inventing my own negative thoughts!
Nehemiah 6:9 ESV
For they all wanted to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will drop from the work, and it will not be done.” But now, O God, strengthen my hands.
The purpose of opposition is to cause your hand to drop from the work!
But remember it’s not my work! It’s God’s work…
Todays Affirmation:
God Will Strengthen My Hand
to strengthen v. — to make strong or stronger.
It’s God’s work - So I need His strength
I can’t allow negative thoughts to control my direction in life!
His work is going TIE lives together…
From ministry - market place - corporate space
