We Won!!!

Montezuma Basketball. The boys team won the state basketball championship for division 1A. When the final horn sounded ending the game every Montezuma Braves Basketball Fan started screaming as one voice.....WE WON!!!
We all know that in one sense, the actual sense we did not win the tourney. None of us played, only some of us show up at the well, only some of us watched online but in reality one the Guys on the Team won the victory.
In reality what is happen in the guys won the game. They were the victors! The fan get to come along for the ride and enjoys the teams presence and maybe get to talk to a player for the game. The team plays their hearts out and when the final buzzer sounds because of their victory we as Montezumans get to say, “We Won! We won!!!”
Because we are in the Montezuma Fan base we are victorous. A lot of this can transfer to our relationship with Christ. So let’s look at Christus Victor!!

Who Taught Christus Victor?

The ‘who’ question is a difficult one to answer and would take more time to unpack than we have this morning. Therefore, I am going to skip this question

What Does Christus Victor Teach?

The current idea of Christus victor is the idea that Jesus victorious over the devil. that because of the cross the power of death, hell, and the grave have been overcome by Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit for glory of God. We are able to be redeemed because Jesus won the battle between Good and Evil.
There is a catch to this theory. For Christ to be victorious he had to be in a battle with someone or something. As Christians, we believe that Jesus Christ was victorious because Jesus won the war or sin and satan

Why Does Christus Victor Matter to Us, Today?

Christ’s Victory stands in the middle of Defeat.
No matter what happens to you if you remain in Christ and Christ in you…you will WIN.
Christ’s Victory in the middle of defeat gives us Hope for Tomorrow.
Christ’s Victory in the middle of our defeat gives us strength
Christ’s victory allows us to overcome temptation.

Putting It All Together

One view is not more important than the other. In fact, we need to put all them together to make a corherant theory that takes into account all the different passage of Scripture that talks about the atonement of Humanity.
If we assigned each teaching a body part for example, the foot as the moral influence, the penal substution theory as the ehar and Chrisus Victor as the head, we can talk about how they all each other just like we all need ohter.
