Have you ever felt useless and unworthy?
don't know if you have a purpose in life?
The real worth of a person is determined by what that person does when there is nothing to do.
1 Corinthians 12:12–31 ESV
12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. 14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. 27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. 28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.
last couple of weeks we have been seeing that you and i have all been given some gift or portion from the HS.
the proof of what is given is the manifestation / empowerment or the Charisma that we saw last week
every one is given some portion.
i hope that you have been checking and trying to identify what the HS has given you.
i hoe that you are asking the HS to geive me this gift or that gift. its ok to ask. Paul said to desire these portions.
ask and you will get more.
you might be thinking that i am just a house wife. what kind of portion of the HS will i get or rather how can i manifest any thing.
remember that the famous Azuso street revival that started a 100 years ago was started by a couple of house wives while washing dishes. they got the gift of speaking in tongues. there are a lot of benefits to speaking in tongues.
so don't think that you have got nothing. so don't think that I AINT NOBODY!
Pauls first analogy(V 15-17) is that - just because you don't function or do things the way i do it, that does not make the other any less.
the hand cant say to the ear and look down and say that look at my strength, i have the power, i have the muscles. i can lift things. but what do you do ear? just listen? seems to be doing nothing.
but let me tell you that when a danger is comming, its the ear that gives a signal and you are protected.
you cant say to another that i do it this way and so you have to do things the same.
Pauls second analagy (V 21) is that just because they don't do the way you do it, does not mean that you don't need them.
imagine that if i’m preaching and there is no one to listen. or the better way is if everyone is preaching and no one is listening. that really happens in life.
that happen in real life where everyone is preaching and no one is listening.
thats where splits happen.
V 22- 25, Pauls brings the 3 analagy or relation of Church with human body is that there are weaker, less horoble and unpresentable part ofthe body that is protected, covered and secured. these are the part of the body that we have to treat with great care and modesty.
Paul could be referring to the internal organs. these are not exposed to the outside. the heart, lungs, liver etc.
these organs cannot function outside. we have to protect them.
if your heart or brains are damaged, then its more crucial than the muscle or bones getting damaged.
so dont think that you are useless being or a no body. you are some body. the world may not see you but are important.
so imagine now with the COVID pandemic. its a microscopical virus, something that you cant see with the eyes. but that infects the throat and lungs. two organs that are not visible to the outside, get effected and the whole body is down.
this comparison that Paul is explaining to the Corinthian church is to show that we need each other and need to care for others, however different they are.
so there are various gifts and 9 of them and the way they function is what we saw last week in the sermon - portions of Chrisma.
but there are two gifts that paul brings out in v 28 and that is not mentioned earlier
1 Corinthians 12:28 ESV
28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.
Gift of Helping
Antilempsis.
One with the ability to help or aid someone; a general helper.
Luke 8:1–3 NLT
1 Soon afterward Jesus began a tour of the nearby towns and villages, preaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God. He took his twelve disciples with him, 2 along with some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases. Among them were Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons; 3 Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s business manager; Susanna; and many others who were contributing from their own resources to support Jesus and his disciples.
so what were these women doing - helping, providing, assisting jesus and his disciples to preach the gospel.
who were in the front - Jesus and his disciples.
who were supporting these people? the special ladies - 3 of them are mentioned here
these sisters were contributing from their own resources.
may be they were rich business women, to provide from their resources.
Pauls says that one of the gifts the the HS gives is to HELP.
turn to someone and say i aint nobody. i’m a helper
Gift of Administration
kubernesis.
the ability to lead—‘guidance, leadership, to steer a ship. Giving acts of guidance or wise counsel to the church.
It has nothing to do with administrative skills, in spite of the long-standing tradition to translate it “administrations/administrators” in most English Bibles
Proverbs 11:14 NLT
14 Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.
Have you ever seen yourself as having the general gift of helps or the specific gift of a counselor?
If so, how are you giving yourself to exercising your gift?
remember these are portions of the HS. you cant develop this. its a gift. but you can exercise it and grow more in it.
remember that we are christ body and christ is the head
any thing that happens to one part of us, it effects the other parts and it effects Christ as well.
Acts 9:4 ESV
4 And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”
Saul was persecuting the Christians
jesus told him why are you persecuting me?
you touch a christian, you touch Christ.
this is also a warning not to go against Christians
i’m different from you. but that does not mean that i’m less than you.
its the same HS that’s working in both of us
but that does not give us an excuse to be a mediocre at what we do
it does not mean that we have no room for getting better and bigger.
there is always more of the HS that he can give us and more of the relm that we can work in.
the problem that has happened in our church and that is evident in the Corinth church is that we have given certain gifts more priority and less for others.
for example a pastor or a preacher is given more respect than the person who operates in the gift of helping.
let me tell you that the reward by God for the person who is preaching and the person who’s administering is the same.
we aint nobody
we are one body
we are Christ body
when you help somone, Christ is helping someone
when you work at a place, its Christ who is working there
when someone hurts u, they hurt Christ.
so be of good cheer
do you know that when you walk around, its Christ who is walking around with you?
when you speak, it can be Christ who is speaking through you
i say that you can because you have the free will to speak what christ wants or what you want.
you can speak whats in your mind or whats in christ mind.
thats why paul says that have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:16 NLT
16 For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
let our minds be transformed to speak what Christ wants to speak
Romans 12:2 AMP
2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].
the world should see that you are a different person
the world will back stab to get a promotion, but you will help someone else to get a promotion.
the world will save money to use on oneself, but you will give money to help someone.
the world will study to get a degree but you will study to get
i am different and that's OK
i aint nobody, i m Christ body.
1 Corinthians 12:13 ESV
13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
this verse i believe that is the key in all the above verses
it is by the one spirit that we are all united into Jesus.
the Spirit is the combining factor of what runs common among all of us.
what is the one thing that unites all the body parts together?
what runs through all the visible and invisible organs?
our Blood.
probably Paul dint know about blood, but if he know probably the best analogy is that how the blood runs in all parts of the body, the same way the HS runs in all of us and unites us together.
the manifestation is different but its the same spirit.
the verse says that we were all made to drink of one spirit. made to drink or watered by the one spirit.
we are watered by the HS
i am irrigated by the HS
i am nurtured by the HS
which means that the HS is poured out on me.
that is the blessing that we have
drench me Lord.
let me have more of you Lord
John 7:37–39 TPT
37 Then on the most important day of the feast, the last day, Jesus stood and shouted out to the crowds—“All you thirsty ones, come to me! Come to me and drink! 38 Believe in me so that rivers of living water will burst out from within you, flowing from your innermost being, just like the Scripture says!” 39 Jesus was prophesying about the Holy Spirit that believers were being prepared to receive. But the Holy Spirit had not yet been poured out upon them, because Jesus had not yet been unveiled in his full splendor.
do you know that the water can put off the fire.
when the world will throw a firey dart at you. it will not blaze since the
living water will quench the flame.
i may not be in the fore front and i may be week. but i am protected.
i aint nobody. i’m Christ body.
