Title: Necrotizing Fasciitis
Text: 2 Kings 5:1-3, 13-14
Introduction
1. Naaman appeared great, unless you peeled back the layers covering his flesh.
2. Coping with your rotting flesh will cost you everything.
3. Uncovering your rottenness to YHWH will bring you healing and restoration!
Proposition: Until you deal with your flesh, it will continue to rot away, eventually destroying you.
Interrogative: Why must your flesh be dealt with, instead of coped with?
Transition: If Naaman continued to cope with his leprosy by hiding it, he would have died.
1. Naaman, Great in the eyes of HIS master, the King of Syria.
a. Respected and honored by his peers (v. 1)
b. Revered by his subordinates in the Syrian Army (v. 1)
c. Was a leper (v. 1)
2. Covered up his rotting flesh everyday – he could do nothing else.
a. No matter your strengths – he was a mighty man (v. 1)
b. No matter your accolades – held in high favor and victorious for Syria (v. 1)
c. No matter you position – Commander of the Syrian Army (v. 1)
i. Nothing could get rid of his rotting flesh.
Transition: When presented with an opportunity for breakthrough, TAKE IT!!!
1. The Israelite slave girl knew exactly what he really needed.
a. She had compassion for him through her own bondage. (v. 2)
b. She could have mocked and ridiculed his problem. (v.2-3)
c. In indentured servitude, she still pointed him towards restoration, even though she was not going to be relieved from her own bondage. (v. 3)
2. Naaman’s servants recognized the opportunity he was rejecting, and course-corrected their master.
a. Please just listen, the word of the prophet is simple. (v. 13)
b. Please do not be so stubborn. Sir. (v. 13)
c. Your words are correct, I’ll do it. (v. 14)
d. Obedience, no matter how simple, can restore you better than before. (v. 14)
Transition: Do NOT facilitate your sin by calling it and “issue”.
1. Jesus did not go through what he went through on the cross for you to “cope” with your sinful flesh.
2. He went through that for you to be able to overcome your flesh.
3. Stop hiding your rotting flesh. Come and dip seven times and be made clean!
