Confident - The Voice of God

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Everything Spiritual isn’t from God

I am not talking about other belief systems

The difference between all belief is works vs grace and what you do with Jesus.

This is false teaching that has crept into churches and is pretty mainstream

Prosperity or Health and wealth - faith allows you to be rich and healthy - ear tickling

Emotion driven - it is all about my feelings

New ecumenical-ism - co-exist

Fatalism - Everything happens for a reason instead God gives reason to everything

2 Timothy 4:3 CSB

For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear.

So how do we test?

a. Start with the Bible

2 Timothy 3:16–17 CSB

All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Start with scripture -

Read it - just start reading - download the app

Study it - ask the questions - who are they talking to, what are they saying, how can i apply this

Scripture can never say what never said - look for context

memorize it

Psalm 119:11 CSB

I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.

b. Have Spiritual mentors

1 Timothy 1:1–2 CSB

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope: To Timothy, my true son in the faith. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

b. Have Spiritual mentors

You need other people speaking into you

Find someone farther down the road not a “yes man”

Be a part of a small group - women meet Wednesday, Men - on zoom

Come to church and spur each other on

Hebrews 10:25 CSB

not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.

2nd truth

2. The Holy Spirit will always point to Jesus.

1 John 4:2 CSB

This is how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,

2. The Holy Spirit will always point to Jesus.

Whatever the teaching or opinion -

If it is not pointing to Jesus it is not from Him

Salvation by any other name - false

Anyone other than Jesus getting credit or glory - false

Anything that is in opposition of what Jesus said - false

Anything Jesus never said -false

Confident

Our failure to hear His voice when we want to is due to the fact that we do not in general want to hear it, that we want it only when we think we need it. Dallas Willard

Confident

I believe and know we can hear God’s voice in our lives

we have all we need

John 8:31–32 CSB

Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Know - deep understanding -

Rumination - chewing cud

Every other voice or way leads to bondage

God’s voice and truth brings freedom

Have you lost your way or never found it

Let today be day one of knowing the truth

Let today be day one of discerning and hearing our Shepherd's voice
