Notice how Jesus responded to three different relationships when the pressure was high! Whom are you seeking? How do you respond?

Confrontation with His Enemies

Judas sought a quick buck. He sought a man who had often escaped before.
The religious leaders sought to maintain their power. They sought troublemaker.
The roman cohort sought an insurrectionist or vilolent zealot. They did not know the nature of Jesus.
Luke 22:52–53 ESV
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53 When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
Jesus confronted them all with the Question: Whom do you seek?
I AM - they sought a man, he declared his diety! Bread of Life, Light of the World, the Door, The Good Shepherd, the Resurrection and the Life, the Way the Truth and the Life, the True Vine.
There is coming a day when every knee will bow.

Care for His Disciples

Peter was determined to prove his loyalty, especially after being told he would deny the Lord.
But notice Jesus’ care for his Disciples. “Let these go.”
Jesus loved his own to the end - John 13.
He could have called 70,000+ angels at a moments notice.
Your own strength will fail you, but those who trust in Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit will stand.

Commitment to His Father’s Will

“Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given to me?”
He was determined to do the will of the Father and complete the work He had been given to do.
Application:
How do you respond to Jesus? Do you see him as merely a man or as the Son of God, the Great I AM.
How do you respond under pressure? Do you seek to fulfill God’s purposes in your own strength, or are you determined to do the Father’s will?
