Protecting the Body
Have you ever considered how the body was so intricately designed? The human being has been given five senses. Most of us do not consider the importance of our senses;
The sense of sight we have the ability to see for ourselves the things around us. Even so, when we see can’t be guided by sight alone.
The sense of smell with which we can often make up a mental picture of what we see. How many of us can remember the smell of fresh cut grass and link it to a fond memory
The sense of touch through it we can tell the difference between hot and cold. When something hurts we are able to tell the danger that exists
The sense of hearing through which we hear and make a greater understanding of what is going on with our surroundings. Here again, we cannot just rely on what we hear.
The sense of taste through which we can taste when something is good or bad.
When you examine the body of Christ we are made aware it is comprised of different part. Some fingers, some ears, some eyes, and so on.
Imagine now for a brief moment if we were to take one of your senses away. Lets take touch… how do you now tell when something hurts, or your vision how can you discern what is before you?
If we would be unwilling to take away even one of our senses for fear of not being able to understand our situation… would we be willing to in the least lose one of the parts of the body in Christ?
What would we miss out on? Yet, today when we examine the church we see a majority of the body unwilling to accept the offices of the body of Christ with some stating the time for those offices has passed. Imagine… well now that you saw something we need to lose your eyesight after all you have already seen it.

To attain unity, achieve maturity, protect the body as we grow into Christ we need all five ministries functioning in the church.

Ephesians 4:11–16 ESV
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
Covered all 5
Work is to be done by all 5; not 1 or several.
Tossed to and fro
waves and winds of doctrine
There is a wavering that occurs with those who are found disjointed or without a properly formed body. (Jas 1:6)

To attain unity, achieve maturity, protect the body as we grow into Christ we need all five ministries functioning in the church.

The Work of False Ministers

Oppose the Work of True Ministers

2 Timothy 3:8 ESV
Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith.
When Aaron and Moses produced signs and wonders they duplicated their work to take captive the minds
Corrupted… these overtly stood opposed
They fabricate and make things appear as though they were

Bring in Heresies to the Church

2 Peter 2:1–3 ESV
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
Notice they are among the people
They bring in heresies subverting the truth
They lead others to follow them
There greed exploits the people of God
Their destruction is close

Produce False Believers

2 Timothy 4:3–4 ESV
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
2 Tim 3:1-5 Enumerates the character of people who have fallen to false teachers
Worse of it is not enduring sound teaching and speaking against those who preach sound teaching
The winds and waves of false doctrines drive them to their own fleshly passions

The work of the Five-Fold

*Talked about the 5 senses now with the 5 ministry offices...

Teach and Train

2 Timothy 3:15–17 ESV
and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Teach, reprove, correct, train in righteousness
Equip for all good works

Builds the Body of Christ

Protects from heretical teachings
Builds in love
It is perpetual until the return of Jesus Christ.
Who are you? Are you an apostle a prophet? maybe an evangelist, a preacher a teacher? We need every part of this ministry to rise up. Knowing that it is God who is leading us and will bring us as one body in unity into the fullness of and maturity of Jesus Christ.
