Philippians 4:6-9
· Decision making is a process that includes making a choice or judgment about an attitude or action.
· Decisions are an act of the will, and they are always influenced by either the mind or the emotions.
· Ultimately every decision we make ought to be based upon this question: What is God’s will for this matter?

I. Principles of Decision Making

A. Godly Decisions Bring Blessing

Isaiah 1:19
Isaiah 1:19 AV
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
· Wiling – Abah – breathe after, to be submissive, indicate a willingness to accept or comply.
· Are you willing to submit to God’s Will?

B. Godly Decisions Are Based on God’s Revealed Will

· Greek Word krino is one word translated to decide or make judgement.
· The word means to distinguish, to decide mentally, to determine or resolve.
Romans 14:13

13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.
Acts 21:25
Acts 21:25 AV
25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.
Proverbs 3:1-2
Proverbs 3:1–2 AV
1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

C. Your Decisions Reveal Your Desires

I’m going to count down from three, and you have to give me an answer, “three…two...one” that is your real desire.
· Another Hebrew word bawkar, means to select, to choose, to prefer or desire.

30 I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.
Luke 6:45
Luke 6:45 AV
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

D. Your Decisions Are Affected by Your Greatest Desire

· The most basic choice is Do I choose to please myself or choose to please the Lord.
Joshua 24:15
Joshua 24:15 AV
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
· So, do we desire to do our will, or God’s will?

II. Principles Regarding God’s Will

· There are different sides to the idea of the will.
· When making a choice, you are communicating your will.
· The Word will is used to express the mandate or desire of someone in authority (God’s will).
· It also speaks of the idea of having a disposition to act according to your own desired goals (a child may be born with a strong will.)
· Also, by your own will, you can exercise power and control over your own actions and emotions.
Luke 22:42
Luke 22:42 AV
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
· Jesus’ model prayer taught us to pray.
Matthew 6:10
Matthew 6:10 AV
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
· So, what does the Bible say about the Will of God?
