THE LORD’S SUPPER

Matt. 26:17-35; Mark 14:12-31; Luke 22:7-38; John 13:1-38; 1 Cor. 11:23-34

1. What are the similarities of the Gospel Writers account of the Lord’s Supper? What are the differences?

2. Matt. 26:17-35: In Matthew’s account Jesus makes the statement “Truly I say to you that one of you will betray me” (Matt. 26:21 NASB). We know from this statement that Judas was present. Was Judas present when the disciples partook of the Lord’s Supper?

3. Matt. 26:31. “Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of Me this night,” (NASB). What was Jesus referring to when He made this statement and what did He promise them?

4. Mark 14:22-25 Jesus is introducing the Lord’s Supper. What did he say the bread and the drink represented?

5. Mark 14:26 - where did Jesus and the disciples go after they had finished eating?

6. Luke 22:7-38. What Jewish celebration was Jesus and His disciples celebrating when He instituted the Lord’s Supper?

7. What was the significance of this holiday and why did Jesus replace it with the Lord’s Supper?

8. John 13:1-38. In John’s account of the Lord’s Supper, Jesus washes the disciples’ feet. What lesson was Jesus trying to teach them by this humble act?

9. John 13:31-35 Jesus is trying to tell the disciples something. Do you think they understood what He was trying to communicate to them?

10. 1 Cor. 11:23-34 Paul is telling the Corinth church his version of the Lord’s Supper. Where did he say the received it from? If Paul was not one of the original twelve how did he receive it?

11. What is similar about Paul’s account of the Lord’s Supper and what is different from the others?

12. What does 11:23 mean? Why is it important that we “examine” ourselves before we partake of the Lord’s Supper? Who can partake of the Lord’s Supper? Where and when should we partake of the Lord’s Supper.
