Please stand as we honor the reading of God’s Word
2 Samuel 7:12–16 NIV
12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. 15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’ ”
THE WORD OF GOD, FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD

GOOD & BETTER

Good & Better
David’s desire was good, God’s plan even better
Call to Mission put on hold - God’s future plan even better
God’s purposes never fail, but man’s ideas often have mixed motives.
the LORD cannot be contained in a building
the people of God are not church buildings

CULTURE & FAITH

Culture & Faith
political and faith - involved in the world but not of the world
God wants us involved in the physical world - balance that with His kingdom desires - how will they know about God and the gospel - good news - of Jesus if we sequester ourselves
Short-term - Solomon and other kings to follow - discipline when needed
400 years of good and bad Davidic kings until the exile into Babylon
When there was no king - Israel would come back to this promise
Solomon’s temple is long gone, Jesus is still on the throne.
We’re too often bound to the present and our dreams - God wants our present activities to reach into eternity

FOREVER & ETERNITY

Forever & Eternity
Emphasis Forever 3 times our scripture
forever, forever, forever
Eternity is a long time - no end - mathematical eternity = Infinity
“Infinity and beyond” - “Eternity and beyond”
Our faith is based on an everlasting covenant with God. Salvation doesn’t happen being ‘good enough’, or checking the right boxes, or trying to ‘be better’ or our ‘good works’.
Our salvation relies on the King who sits on the throne - Jesus Christ. He is on the throne now and forever.
Remember the angel’s message to Mary:
Luke 1:31–33 NIV
31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
