1 Peter 3:13–17 ESV
13 Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 16 having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.

Be Bold

1 Peter 3:13–14 ESV
13 Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,
“Responding to Suffering in a Godly Way”
To those who are reluctant to share and live out their faith.
Those who have reason to feel that way!!!
I Love how this doesn’t just say, “Suck it up.”
This has a logical reasoning to it.
2 Point Logical reasoning:
Who is there to harm you if you are zealous for doing good?
Rhetorical question - There are people who would harm you for living your faith.
But what power do they have … REALLY
“Do not fear those who can harm the body...”
Even if you do suffer, you will be blessed.
Whatever people may say or do to you
that is not final.
We are looking forward to eternity in God’s presence.

Be Ready

1 Peter 3:15 ESV
15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
“In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy...”
This is the center piece of this section.
following the structure
Antithesis of fearing opposition
Motivation for how to accomplish what follows.
What does it mean?.....
Believe what you say you believe!!!!
In your hearts
This means be willing to dig deeper.
Step into your own faith.
Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for the reason for hope that is in you.
Alway be prepared to make a defense
Twice in this one week I have gotten texts from members for the same question.
“I heard this argument... How should I take this? How would I respond?”
Learn HOW to read your bible
READ YOUR BIBLE!!!
…to anyone who asks you...
It may not be nice people.
They may not ask nicely.
It may not be in the place where you expect to get a question like that.
So “always be prepared” also means alway be open to the conversation.

Be Respectful

1 Peter 3:15 ESV
15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
“yet do it with gentleness and respect,”
Tell the truth but be gentle and respectful.
Don’t be the ugly Christian
Our goal is not to win the argument
Ironically, our personal goal is not even to win souls (That’s God’s prerogative)
I goal is to... “Make a defense for the hope that is in us.”
We are NOT just tolerating them!!!!
Gentleness & respect.
Humility and Reverence
You see the value in those who oppose you.
You contemplate that Christ dies for them.
SETTLE THIS IN YOUR HEART BEFORE HAND!!!!
1 Peter 3:16 ESV
16 having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
Ultimately, your good conduct is a part of your witness.
