[FISHING WITH GRANDPA STORY]
ANYONE WHO HAS FISHED HAS A STORY — Your life and my life was meant to be a fishing trip — and you should have a fishing story
JESUS HAS INVITED US ON THE ULTIMATE FISHING TRIP
JESUS HAS INVITED US ON THE ULTIMATE FISHING TRIP
You and I are called to be fishers — To join on this adventure of a lifetime
Jesus is preaching on the sea of Galilee — Talking to all the there and realized he needs to improvise so everyone can hear him
1 One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God. 2 He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets.
They were cleaning their nets with empty boats. That means no fish — They didn’t catch anything — Have you ever had a fishing trip like that?
Ancient Fisherman spent a lot of time fixing their nets — They had weights in them — Drop the nets and the weights would sink, surround the fish, then you pull them up — You always fish at night because during the day the fish were too deep
3 Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.
What was Jesus doing? — He was trying to preach on the beach but people couldn’t hear — He calls Peter to help, and Jesus uses Peter’s boat to reach more people — JESUS was using technology so that thousands could hear him. — That boat became JESUS pulpit
WHAT IN YOUR LIFE IS ORDINARY THAT GOD WANT’S TO USE IN AN EXTRAORDINARY WAY? — THAT JESUS WANT’S TO TURN INTO A PULPIT? — YOUR GIFTS — TALENTS — YOUR PASSIONS — YOUR WORK SCHEDULE
THREE KINDS OF PEOPLE IN THE ROOM
DON’T KNOW JESUS — You matter to God and are welcome here
BELIEVERS — Brand New — You have never gone fishing for people who don’t know Jesus — You’ve never shared your story — Before and after Jesus
BELIEVERS WHO SHARE — We so often share our actually fishing stories but what about our FISHING FOR PEOPLE STORIES
We wear fishing gear — We watch fishing movies — sing fishing songs — go to aquariums — BUT HOW OFTEN DO WE ACTUALLY FISH

4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”
This is JESUS the carpenter telling the FISHERMAN what to do — This seems crazy — GO OUT AND LET DOWN — Simon had to be upset — HE HAD ALREADY CLEANED THE NETS AFTER CATCHING NOTHING
TWO COMMANDS — GO OUT — LET DOWN — You want to go deep??? Go out — Don’t just go out and work on your tan — GO OUT AND DROP YOUR NETS — Go out where the fish are — your Neighborhood — the school — the baseball team — your workplace — but don’t just go out also DROP YOUR NETS.
5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”
They DROP THE NETS AND....
6 And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! 7 A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.
Simon was in the middle of a miracle
New Living Translation Chapter 5
8 When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” 9 For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. 10 His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed.
JESUS SAYS “YOU FISH....I’LL CATCH”
THIS IS A COMMAND.... NOT AN OPTION — Matthew 28 says GO and LET YOUR NETS DOWN — We have so many reasons why we don’t — “ILL JUST LIVE MY LIFE AS AN EXAMPLE — What if Jesus had done that?? — If you know JESUS you should have a fishing story — YOUR SALVATION IS A STORY — I was lost — no hope — Jesus caught me
THERE IS NOTHING THAT COMPARES TO BEING USED BY GOD TO SAVE SOULS — There is no business like soul business.
New Living Translation Chapter 5
Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” 11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.
HOW can we call ourselves Christians if we are not regularly inviting our friends, coworkers, family, who are going to HELL to CHURCH? — One day we will reach heaven and we will be asked “What did we do with what we were given” — what fish did you catch — If you are not concerned for your friends salvation then IM CONCERNED ABOUT YOURS — If you do not have a heart to see people come to know Jesus there’s a great chance you are not a believer.
THE BEGINNING AND END OF DISCIPLESHIP IS EVANGELISM — THE DEEPEST PEOPLE REACH — The people most like Jesus REACH — WE WILL HAVE ALL OF ETERNITY TO LEARN ABOUT JESUS — But we will never be able to tell another person about JESUS
WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU LED TO JESUS — WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU TRIED???
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE BECAME FISHERS OF MEN??
Everyday we are closer to eternity — Closer to death — SO is every person you come in contact with — Do we care? — Are we reaching? — It’s time for us to go out, go deep, and put our nets down
