Everything in Subjection

This set of passages builds on what we have already learned. Jesus is greater! But also on what Andrew talked about last week. The fact that our neglect of such a great salvation would be a travesty. This salvation means more than just a ticket to heaven, it means the ability to experience life differently today. Everything is in subjection to Him.
He is greater than the angels and here we see that all things are subject to Him. Even though we do not yet see it completely.
Hebrews 2:5–9 ESV
For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. It has been testified somewhere, “What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him? You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor, putting everything in subjection under his feet.” Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
We have already established that

Jesus is Greater!

Subject, Subjection, Subjected - Hypotasso

hupotássō; fut. hupotáxō from hupó (5259), and tássō (5021), to place in order. To place under in an orderly fashion.(I) Act., to subjugate, place in submission. Most often translated subject/subjected/subjection
n. [countable]
that which forms a basic matter of thought, discussion, etc.:
He keeps changing the subject and refuses to stick to the topic.
Educational-branch of knowledge as a course of study:Which subjects are you taking this semester?
Literature, Philosophy-something or someone written about or represented in writing, art, or music:That beautiful model was the subject for a number of Rodin's sculptures.
Government one who owes allegiance to a king or queen or other head of state:The king will provide new services for his loyal subjects.
Grammar-one of the two main parts of a sentence (the other being the predicate) that is a noun or group of words acting like a noun, which usually refers to the one performing the action or being in the state expressed by the predicate: The subject of the sentence Jesse shot the sheriff is Jesse.
That is if the word subject is being used as a noun. Which is one reason we may misread this passage.
Here- everything is the noun.
Subjection is being used as an adjective
in which case it means this
adj.
being under the rule, control, or influence of something:The warriors ruled harshly over their subject peoples. We are subject to the rules and regulations in effect.
I say all that to make sure you understand that we are all subject to something.
We are under the rule of something or someone.
Let’s take a look at this powerful subjection from another standpoint.
Romans 8:20–22 ESV
For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.

Our world is currently subject to sin

John 8:34 ESV
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.
Galatians 5:19–21 ESV
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Romans 5:12 ESV
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
We bought the first lie,
Genesis 3:4–5 ESV
But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
We still desire to be like God.
Why do you think we/I use the phrase, “Surrender your life to Jesus”. It is because you cannot have him and yourself both being God in your life.

Sin dominates speech

Sin dominates thoughts

Sin dominates actions

If we want to escape the dominion of sin, there must be something that even sin is “subject to”.
1 Peter 2:24 ESV
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Hebrews 2:14 ESV
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
Sin is destroyed by the blood of Jesus Christ

Just Like we experienced the subjection to sin, we can experience the subjection to Christ.

That’s why these verses say “everything”

Everything - Pas

pás; fem. pása, neut. pán, masc. gen. pantós, fem. gen. pásēs, neut. gen. pantós. All.

(I) Includes the idea of oneness, a totality or the whole, the same as hólos (3650), the whole.

Everything means everything
Sin, and everything else
Hebrews 2:14–15 ESV
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

What does that really mean to us?

Because all things are subject to Him, we have a hope of better than here.

Why is that important?

I as a pastor love you guys. I am deeply concerned for our church and churches across this country. Let me explain.

Nothing is happening in this world that Christ does not know about.

Everything is Subject to Him

As a result,

Desperation and despair should never characterize us as believers.

Satan’s greatest plan of attack is to come in close and attack through the heart.

I came across a fictitious story that Steve Lawson mentions in a commentary, which speaks about, this word despair. “One day the devil decided to have a garage sale. Taking all his finest tools of destruction: hatred, envy, jealousy, deceit, lust, lying, and pride. He priced each one according to its value and placed them on the driveway. But the two most worn tools were set apart from the other instruments. A curious customer saw them picked up the worn tools, looked it over, and noted that it carried the highest price. He asked, “Why are these tools higher than the others?” The devil laughed and said, “Those the tools are called ‘discouragement and despair’. They are more powerful than any other tools I have. When I use these tools on a person’s heart, I can pry it open and then use all my other tools. It is my most tactical tool and, therefore, comes at a higher price.”
Luke 6:45 ESV
The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

What abundance has been coming out of your mouth lately?

We are not defined by the lies of the Devil, but instead, by the promises of God

Listen to these words from the book of Romans
Romans 8:26–37 ESV
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Hebrews 11:1 ESV
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
2 Peter 1:5–9 ESV
For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

Engaged is not the same as overcome

Romans 15:13 ESV
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
I was asked recently, so what do you want us to do with what you teach us each Sunday?
Here is my answer

Make sure the voice you give the highest priority to is that of Christ.

Why? Because all things are subject to Him.
That means we do not have to worry about the other voices. We are no longer subject to them, you are more than conquerors. Set free
Psalm 23:5–6 ESV
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Why in the presence of the enemy. The story of the fight-and the book

Everything is subject to Him - Place your faith in that today!

He is the ruler of all things. He is the greater than any enemy you may face. He is right there with you through any struggle. That is why desperation and despair should never characterize the believer.

You know the author of your story, you know the author of all stories, and He is for you.

Jesus Truly is Greater
