Part 4: The Holy Scriptures

Luke 24:36-49

Apostles’ Creed: “…I believe in the Holy Spirit.”

  • COTN Article of Faith #4: The Holy Scriptures

1.) The Scriptures are God-breathed.

  • 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2.) The Scriptures are hard to understand.

  • Luke 24:45, “Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.”
  • 2 Peter 3:16, “[Paul’s] letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.”

3.) The Scriptures reveal God’s plan of salvation.

  • Luke 24:46, “This is what was written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations…”
  • 1 Corinthians 15:3-5, “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.”
  • 2 Timothy 3:15, “…from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Jesus.”
