Where’s The Blood Applied? (Applying the Blood and Pleading the Blood)
God gave me such a revelation last Sunday night while I was preaching that I feel compelled to share it in greater detail this morning.
Exodus 12:1-23 READ
13“And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”
22“And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.”
The people were in the house with the lamb; they were inside when they killed the lamb; they were inside when they ate the lamb. It stands to reason they were inside when they applied the blood. It was to be a token to them, them that were inside the house.
The blood is applied to the inside of the door! Hollywood puts it on the outside, God put it on the inside.
Where is the blood applied in your life, or is it even applied at all?
To say that we have been washed in the blood is speak metaphorically. Clearly none of us have bathed in blood. (It is the washing that is metaphoric, not the blood.)
There had to be a literal shedding of blood for without it there is no atoning for our sins.
So, to apply the blood of Christ to my life, even as the children of Israel applied the blood to their homes, would be metaphorically speaking as well.
The Bible says,
“For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:13-14.
How can it purify if it is not applied?
Now, you can’t apply it to yourself, God must apply it, and if I’m not mistaken, and I’m not, Christ took His blood to the Father and offered it to HIM, [Heb 9:12/24] and HE [GOD] accepted it as payment for the sins of the world. 1 John 2:2.
SO, while it is not physically applied to us it most certainly is spiritually applied.
The blood must be, metaphorically speaking, applied to us. The Bible says Christ is OUR Passover Lamb.
1 Corinthians 5:7 “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:”
Moses applied the blood to the book, the people, and the tabernacle and all the vessels.
· Hebrews 9:19-21. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, 20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. 21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
o (Moses in Exodus 24:8, we will cover this again when we get to chapter 34)
o Now we come - Hebrews 12:24 22 But ye are come… 24 …to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling…
· Jesus said in Matthew 26:28 “For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
If the blood of the original covenant was applied to the people and things of the tabernacle we should be able to conclude that the blood must be equally applied to the people today.
This is not a physical blood that we drink or even wear, though we do fully believe in the physical shedding of the blood of Jesus.
The blood we come to is symbolic of His suffer for our sake – “with his stripes we are healed.” It’s symbolic of the suffering He endure, even unto death on the cross.
The Word of God never specifically states that we are to apply the blood to ourselves, that is to our bodies. Nor does the Word of God tell us to plead the blood of Christ over our lives or anything else for that matter. BUT… the blood of the Old Covenant was applied, and the blood of Jesus is the New Covenant so clearly it too must be applied to us for our protection from the wrath to come. The power is in the blood.
The blood must be applied to the heart since we understand that is what God considers in all matter dealing with man.
The word heart appears over 900 times in the KJV. Over 400 time with the word God in the verse.
Speaking of the HEART:
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” God is forever looking at the heart of man.
How shall we be washed in the blood if the blood is never applied?
Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood. It is Jesus Himself [who is the image of God] that applies His own blood to us.
Listen to David as he pours out his heart before God:
The Bible says, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” Psalm 51:7.
Is there a justifiable implication here when David says, “Purge me with hyssop”? I say YES. What was really on David’s heart? Speaking from the first Passover perspective, the Bible says,
· And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; Exodus 12:22.
o By the rule of firsts, Hyssop is used for applying blood
§ It’s also used for sprinkling blood
o Hyssop, by definition, is an herb of purging qualities
o HYSSOP (אֵזוֹב, ezov; ὑσσώπῳ, hyssōpō). A plant used in rituals for ceremonial cleansing and atonement (e.g., Exod 12:22; Lev 14:4, 52; Num 19:6, 18; Heb 9:19). LBD.
· Based upon that, I believe David was asking to be cleansed (purged) once again by the blood dipped in hyssop.
o If David wanted the blood applied to his heart we should as well.
Follow that up again with the fact the Jesus is our Passover Lamb, and that we are cleansed by His blood. Again,
1 Corinthians 5:7 “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:”
· Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood,”
I say all of that to say this – The Blood of Christ must be applied to you and it must be applied on the inside of you, on your heart.
In a roundabout way, Jesus instructs us to do just that.
Matthew 23:25-26 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. 26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
What is it that washes us clean? The blood. (Rev. 1:5). But, if the blood is only applied to the outside, then the inside remains uncleaned.
Since we cannot apply that which we do not posses we must go to the Father and ask or plead for the blood of Christ.
You can get as close to the soap as you like but until you apply the soap, you will remain uncleaned. (Bonnke, German evangelist to Africa).
In your life, where has the blood been applied? Are you walking around with your I’m a Christian Badge on your chest while the heart beneath it is full of sin and wickedness?
The Title of this message is Where’s the Blood Applied? For us, the answer is in verse 13
13“And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.” The answer is, the blood is applied WHERE YOU ARE! Yes, we can say it’s applied to the heart but more importantly, it’s applied to your heart – WHERE YOU ARE!
The Bible says that while we were yet ungodly sinners Christ died for us. Romans 5:6/8
If Christ loved me enough to die for me while I was a sinner, surely HE is willing to forgive me even while I yet sin. Colossians 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.
You want to be cleaned? You want to be forgiven? Then you must come through the blood!
What must I do to be saved? Confess Jesus Christ as Lord and believe in your heart that GOD has raised Him from the dead and thou shall be saved. Repent of your wickedness and ask God to save you.

But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. (Hebrews 9:11-12, NKJV)
“Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you” (Exodus 12:13, NKJV).
And on the Day of Atonement, the blood was sprayed seven times in the Holy of Holies (Leviticus 16:15), foreshadowing the way Christ’s blood was sprayed seven times:
1. His body, in the Garden of Gethsemane. (Luke 22:44)
2. His beard and face. (Isaiah 50:6)
3. His head, from the crown of thorns. (Matthew 27:29)
4. His beaten back. (Matthew 27:26)
5. His hands, nailed to the cross. (Psalm 22:16)
6. His feet, as the nails were driven in. (Psalm 22:16)
7. His pierced side. (John 19:34)
The Bible points again and again to the costly sacrifice of the blood of the Lamb:
But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. (Hebrews 9:11-12, NKJV)
Jesus Christ shed His blood to cover the sins of the whole world, but only those who accept the blood will be forgiven. Only when we accept the blood sacrifice will we be accepted. And only by the proper application of the blood of Jesus can we be covered with His protection and all the other blessings available to us.
No matter how wonderful and powerful the New Covenant may be, it is only through the application, in faith, of the promises that you see results. This is true in every area of life, including finances. This is crucial, especially during times of crisis and uncertainty!

Applying the Blood—Then and Now
Thankfully, more and more believers throughout the world are discovering the power of applying the blood of Jesus. And it is more crucial now than ever for us to understand how to apply it.
I’ve already mentioned that during the Passover the children of Israel were commanded to take a branch of hyssop and, by faith, apply the blood on the lintel and two side posts of their houses.
Job did exactly what God instructed him to do under the Old Covenant, and God placed a hedge around Job (Job 1:9-10), showing that the blood covers these five areas:
1. You
2. Your house and family
3. Your possessions and property
4. Your endeavors
5. Your influence
Job regularly made a sacrifice and applied the blood (Job 1:5), and the results echo throughout history.
So must we do under the New Covenant, but the sacrifice has been made once and for all through Jesus Christ and His shed blood.
However, there is a major, life-changing difference. In the Old Covenant, the blood was applied with the hyssop plant. In the New Covenant, we apply the blood by speaking it and through prayer.
The apostle Paul said, “We also believe and therefore speak” (2 Corinthians 4:13). Just as the Bible says we have “the power of life and death in our tongue” (Proverbs 18:21), our words—especially as we pray and apply His Word to our lives—are the applying force.
The faith-filled believer’s voice is a powerful weapon of war as we appropriate all the benefits of the cross of Jesus Christ, including redemption, cleansing, reconciliation, sanctification, forgiveness, protection, access, dwelling in God’s presence, and ultimately victory!
When you apply the blood, the anointing follows you, your house and family, your possessions and property, your endeavors, and your influence!
It is only under the blood of Christ Jesus, through faith, that believers can be victorious because we are free and safe from the enemy.
Apply and activate the blood through your voice as you pray, make faith-filled confessions, and speak God’s Word, His Scriptures, over your life.
More than ever, we must understand that believers are given God’s promise of protection and favor through applying Christ’s blood to every area of life!
God desires the best for you. No matter what is happening in your life today, He wants to build a powerful legacy.
Apply the blood! Pray! Confess the Word!
Because you are a covenant believer, God has promised to care of you, even when you face challenges, as you trust in Him.
