2 Samuel 7:8-11

2 Samuel 7:8–11 NIV
8 “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel. 9 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth. 10 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning 11 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. “ ‘The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you:

What to do when you don’t know what to do.

-Have you ever been stuck in life?
-You know what you should be doing or how you should be living but you’ve tired everything to get there and just keep feeling like life is out to get you.
-It wasn’t enough for a pandemic to come and ruin plans you’ve looked forward to for years, but now your parents are getting divorced.
-Maybe you finally took the risk you felt God calling you to take or you’ve taken steps toward your dream and now you’re just so overwhelmed with what is required of you.
-Or maybe you feel like you’re losing the very support system that got you to where you are now and you just don’t know how you are going to make it.
-Well, if so, tonight is for you.
-We are going to pick back up the story of David’s life right before his life’s greatest accomplishment.
-Shortly after David is anointed King of Israel by Samuel while Saul is still King, David is put into service as Saul’s armor bearer. However, David never mentions to Saul what Samuel prophesied over his life, which was smart.
-Long story short, David kills a giant and leads Israel to one of its biggest victories simply because he was obedient and brave.

Don’t Get Lost in Your Head

1 Samuel 18:30 NIV
30 The Philistine commanders continued to go out to battle, and as often as they did, David met with more success than the rest of Saul’s officers, and his name became well known.
-David didn’t let one victory define him.
-If a moment of failure can’t define, then a moment of victory can’t either.
-Instead of living in your past, live dedicated to your call and growth.

Honor the Haters

-Shortly after David’s fame grew as a powerful warrior and leader, Saul began doing everything he could to kill and destroy David’s reputation.
-Multiple times Saul lied to David in an attempt to kill him, so that David wouldn’t become a better king than he was.
-David had to spend almost 10 years on the run hiding from Saul and enemies that he faced in battle.
-Later in his journey through the wilderness David is given two opportunities to kill Saul.
-The first one happened when Saul chose a cave to use the restroom in that David and his men were living in.
-David cut Sauls robe when he took it off to do his business but didn’t harm Saul.
-All of David’s army told him to kill Saul but David felt bad for even cutting Saul’s robe.
-David understood honor and constantly said to Saul and everyone around him that it was God’s job to punish Saul for what he had done.
-The second opportunity David has to kill Saul came when David and his army found Saul’s camp.
-This time, David stole his spear and the next morning confronted Saul from a distance about it.
1 Samuel 26:22–25 NIV
22 “Here is the king’s spear,” David answered. “Let one of your young men come over and get it. 23 The Lord rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness. The Lord delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed. 24 As surely as I valued your life today, so may the Lord value my life and deliver me from all trouble.” 25 Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, David my son; you will do great things and surely triumph.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned home.
-David had every right to kill Saul but he chose God’s call to grace.
-Responding with hate creates more hate. Responding with grace creates healing.
-

Let God Work in HIS TIME

-David was able to become king of Israel because he let God control the plan.
-Don’t so concerned with your plans that you neglect your path.
-
2 Samuel 7:8–11 NIV
