The Betrayal of the King John 18:1-12 1. His Courage in the Face of Death (1-4) Matthew 26:3-5 - 3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the high priest, named Caiaphas; 4 and they plotted together to seize Jesus by stealth and kill Him. 5 But they were saying, "Not during the festival, otherwise a riot might occur among the people." 2. His Power over His Enemies (5-6) Luke 22:53 - 53 "While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me; but this hour and the power of darkness are yours." 3. His Love for His Disciples (7-9) The Lord always provides what we need in order to overcome temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13 - 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. 4. His Obedience to the Father (10-12) Psalm 75:8 - 8 For a cup is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine foams; it is well mixed, and He pours out of this; surely all the wicked of the earth must drain and drink down its dregs. Isaiah 51:17 - 17 Rouse yourself! Rouse yourself! Arise, O Jerusalem, You who have drunk from the LORD's hand the cup of His anger; The chalice of reeling you have drained to the dregs. Jeremiah 25:15 - 15 For thus the LORD, the God of Israel, says to me, "Take this cup of the wine of wrath from My hand and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it. Revelation 14:9-11 Even when it seems all is lost, Jesus is always in complete control. Following our passions and not the truth will always lead us astray. Even when He was betrayed by a friend, Jesus demonstrated that He was both able and willing to defeat sin and death on the cross.
