10 Things in hell we need in the church today.

St. Luke 16: 19-31.

This is an incredible story that can relate to all of us. Today I share with you what the Lord has placed in my heart to share with you about some deficiencies that are found in the church today. May this message move you, challenge you, and stir up the gift that is with in you.

This story informs us that here are two men a rich man and a poor man.

Ø      The rich man is dressed in regal splendor. He seems to have it all. Some even believe he is religious. He has utter disregard for the poverty stricken man living in the shadows of his home.

Ø      The poor man is dressed in ragged clothes. He doesn’t have anything. He is lying at the gate of the rich man hungry and his body covered in sores.

I think about how many live in the shadows of churches and sometimes we are not aware of the spiritually hungry.

Both men die. The rich man’s funeral is elaborate and the who’s who has arrived for the visitation and the funeral. No one knows that the poor man has even died.

The rich man dies and goes to hell and the poor man dies and goes to Abraham’s bosom. [Entered into the fellowship of other believers already in heaven].

  1. Uplifted eyes. [Verse 23]

So many are beaten down, abused, rejected with the feeling of no self-worth. The Lord desires that we lift up our head and focus our eyes and attention on the Lord.

  1. Crying. [Verse 24]

The rich man cries out. He is tormented in pain. Some in the church have been hurt so bad that they are determined not to cry but the church needs to cry out for the lost. Cry for our families who are lost.

  1. Mercy. [verse 24]

God has shown us mercy by sending His Son Jesus to pay the penalty of our sin and pay the ransom for our soul.

Mercy is needed in the church and compassion.

Galatians 6:10 says, “As we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” ESV

  1. Cool tongue. [verse 24]

It has been said that our tongue weighs about 2 ounces, but we still struggle to keep it tamed. The tongue is an indicator of a person’s spirit. It reveals what is in our heart. The heart has the power to praise or destroy. The church needs to use its tongue to encourage.

The rich man who had been merciless and now desires to be a recipient of God's mercy.

Proverbs 10:20 says, “The words of the godly are like sterling silver.” TLB

Proverbs 25:23 says, “The north wind brings forth rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.” ESV

  1. Comfort.  [Verse 25]

John 15: 26.

  1. Prayer. [Verse 27].

The church is to be the house of prayer. We can never stop praying! The prayer of repentance, guidance and wisdom is needed. Is prayer your spare tire or your steering wheel?

  1. Missionary Spirit. [Verse 27]

The spirit of the missionary is to go and tell with love. That is the commission of the church.

The greatest missionaries would be the folks in hell today. Outreach is not a certain day; it is a life style for the church.

  1. Testimony. [Verse 28]

The Lord has been too good to us for us not to share God’s love.

  1. Repentance. [Verse 30]

Minds and lives must change. Repentance means to turn from our sin and turn to Christ.

Acts 2:37, 38; 3:19.

  1. Fire. [Verse 24]

The fire will draw a cold world into a warm loving relationship with the Lord.

Story: Church on fire.
