The Bible speaks a lot about praise.

We give praise
++To show gratitude
++To give thanks

Praise declares the Goodness of God

2 Chronicles 7:1–3 ESV
1 As soon as Solomon finished his prayer, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. 2 And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord filled the Lord’s house. 3 When all the people of Israel saw the fire come down and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”

Worship is filled with tradition

Why do we worship the way we do?
Tradition only can
++Weaken our worship
++Make our worship common
When God shows up worship become
++Worship becomes more than tradition
++Praise more than a song
When God show up praise is inevitable
Matthew 21:16 ESV
16 and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, “ ‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise’?”
What the children were saying
++Was unexpected
++Outside the norm
When God shows up Praise is inevitable
Luke 19:41–44 ESV
41 And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42 saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44 and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

Praise declares the presence of God

Jesus Wept
++Not because of trauma
++Not because of pain
In the midst of their worship
++They were unaware of God’s presence
++They did not understand that God had visited them
1 Peter 2:9 ESV
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
