HONORABLE MEN

Philippians 2:19-30

INTRODUCTION

The Great Need of Our Day is Honorable Men!

What Makes A Man a Honorable Man?

Paul Mentions two men who he said were the kind of men that could and should be honored.

Timothy = “honor God”

Epahroditus = charming

Let’s List Their Traits...

1A.       SINCERE (19-20)

(1 Corinthians 16:10)  If Timothy comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is carrying on the work of the Lord, just as I am.

We need men who are not afraid to care deeply and sacrifice greatly for the work of the Lord!

Paul said these kind were unique - unusual!

2A.       SELFLESS (21)

(Philippians 1:21)  For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Timothy did not serve God for what He could gain but for what he could GIVE!

(1 Corinthians 10:24)  Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

3A.       SERVANT (22)

He had proven himself in his home church

(Acts 16:1‑2)  He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek. {2} The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.

He had proven himself by his service with Paul!

(1 Corinthians 4:17)  For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.

4A.       SUBMISSIVE (23-24)

Timothy was willing to go as Paul’s substitute

He was not concerned about “his ministry”

He was more concerned about the work of the church than he was he career!

5A.       BALANCED (25)

Brother

They have the same Father!

Fellow worker

They have the same Master!

(Ephesians 4:5‑6)  one Lord, one faith, one baptism; {6} one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Fellow solider

They have the same enemy!

(1 Peter 5:8)  Be self‑controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

6A.       BURDENED (26-27)

For Missions - that’s why he brought the offering to Paul

For Ministry - he was concerned about his own church

7A.       BLESSING (28-30)

He was a blessing to everyone who came into contact with him!
