Matthew 21:1–11 CSB
1 When they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage at the Mount of Olives, Jesus then sent two disciples, 2 telling them, “Go into the village ahead of you. At once you will find a donkey tied there with her colt. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them at once.” 4 This took place so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled: 5 Tell Daughter Zion, “See, your King is coming to you, gentle, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” 6 The disciples went and did just as Jesus directed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt; then they laid their clothes on them, and he sat on them. 8 A very large crowd spread their clothes on the road; others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them on the road. 9 Then the crowds who went ahead of him and those who followed shouted: Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven! 10 When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in an uproar, saying, “Who is this?” 11 The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Palm Sunday

What a scene, what an event.
Jesus who has gone to Jerusalem on Many occasions. And never goes in on a beast as far as we are told.
And yet He goes in on a beast with great fanfare. This is final time riding. Not on a horse, a sign of power, of majesty, of kingship. But on a lowly animal a sign of humility. Still riding and in an area were most people walked.
He was proclaiming Himself to be Lord.
And as He enters in they lay blankets and palm branches down. Thus palm Sunday which we will celebrate in a few weeks.
What a sight to see ushering in a Lord and saying Hosanna. Which is a cry of happiness. Hosanna the reason for Joy
Glory to God in the Highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Blessed Is He, The prophet Jesus, The Messiah, The Anointed One of God.
What a spectacular event this would be
At this who would have thought that He would be killed at the end of a week. The crowed didn't, But Jesus Knew. The Disciples were nervous. They come in at Passover time when lots of People were there celebrating in Jerusalem. I am sure some of the disciples hoped to be unseen in the crowd.
But No, Not coming in like this. Declared to be a King. Declared to be a Prophet. They were seen and those who were already plotting began to plot more. This is going to make those who are declaring him to be a heretic even more enraged. This would make those who are worried about the Romans to be come terrified. If we don’t do something about this disrupt-er of the peace, they will.
Jesus would not survive the week.
But that is OK. Its part of the plan. Even though Jesus will ask for a different plan. He knows the plan. And follows through. Its time
What would that be like? Knowing the time of your death, and the probable method given the time period and atmosphere of Jerusalem?
What if you knew?
Face it
Run
Bargain
Fight
And these people who were there proclaiming Jesus Life Are going to have to see Jesus death. I wonder if they felt like there was nothing they could do? If they hid, If they watched, If they turned on Jesus
Maybe members of this Crowed did all of that
We are like that. We proclaim God one movement and then someone cuts us off, or is rude, or we have a flat, or our blood sugar gets a little low. And we forget God
And we are "not in the spirit any more". And we can flip flop many times a day. You all know what I am talking about When I find myself not so in the spirit. At work, At home, At church, At the store, In the care, Where ever.
I find that the best way to get back in. Is to pause. And to worship God. Through song, through prayer, through reading the Bible, through meditation, through meeting with a fellow Disciple in God in which God encourages me
In truth we want to be the ones that lay our selves down at the feet of Jesus, not just when we thought he was going to do something for us. But even at the Cross when we don’t understand what is happening and what is going on.

Next Steps

As we close today. Let us be the ones laying ourselves down before the Lord. And singing Glory to God in the Highest. And remember to worship God
He is the one who has come
