[At Easter in 2008 I had the pleasure of taking a 2 day trip to Norway for my Dad's 50th Birthday. I managed to find literally 2p return flights! One of the things I did was take the Oslofjord sightseeing trip from Radhusbrygge for a couple of hours. This is a story we were told on the tour!]

Oslo is built on a Fjord with a whole load of different Islands in the middle. A lot of them have houses on them, though some have houses just used in the summer. A generation or so ago the sea used to freeze over in the winter such that people could not only skate or ski from island to island, but sometimes would even just walk around on top.

On one of the Islands which had no shop, there lived a man whose wife used to row a boat across to the neighbouring shop every day and buy what they needed for the house. In the winter when it was frozen she just walked across instead. However, one sunny winter morning she woke up and came downstairs to find that her husband hadn't left any money for her to take to the shopkeeper, but instead left a note. She walked across the river, finally reaching the shop and handed the note to the shopkeeper, it read:

"Dear shopkeeper, I haven't sent any money with my wife this morning. I don't trust the ice"

What do we value?

Will the Ice crack beneath us?
