In our 1st reading the writer of Hebrews is encouraging the early Jewish believers giving them confidence to keep the faith keep enduring in doing God’s will so to receive the promise. He reminds them of the terrible persecutions they have already endured as believers in Christ. Thrown out of their synagogues, not fitting in with their fellow Jews, and loosing their property and livelihoods to the Roman empire who gravely persecuted Christians, Those Jewish brothers and sisters of ours had no were to turn for refuge. But God was their refuge There are similar parallels between them and millions of Christians in 2021 who feel the threat of coming persecutions for professing their faith, having no where to turn for refuge, while millions of others are not so concerned at all, may even be somewhat happy about the affairs of the Church and the world alike.
