HOW TO HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING

Psalm 105:1-5

INTRODUCTION

Thanksgiving brings to mind lots of things.

Joke about 92 year old getting married.

Biblical Background

Written after the return from Babylon.

They were thankful that they could come home.

1A.          REJOICE (vv.1-2)

1B.          Praise to His Name

1C.          With your hands

“thanks” = to hold up or out your hands in praise.

2C.          With all your heart

“call” = cry out or to loudly proclaim carries the idea of deep feelings.

3C.          With your voice

“sing” = He likes to hear you sing

2B.          Proclaim His Fame

1C.          For His past accomplishments (1b)

“done” = His exploits/victories

2C.          For His present activity (2b)

“wonderful” = great, impossible

What supernatural act has God performed in your life? - lately?

2A.          RETURN (3-4)

1B.          Seek Him

How?

1C.          Celebrate Him

“glory” = celebrate and to boast.

2C.          Choose His

“hearts” = the center of the will.

2B.          Serve Him

1C.          Follow Him

“Look” = to follow after

“strength” = majesty

Act like a prince - because that is what you are!

Luke 9:23

Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

2C.          Face Him

“face” = His person/ his presence

John 15:5

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

1B.          His Greatness

“wonders” = same as above - great impossible feats

1 Chronicles 16:25

For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.

2B.          His Glory

“miracles” = an open, obvious movement of God often used to describe a sign.

1 Peter 2:12

Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

3B.          His Goodness

“judgments” = God judgement on sin or God’s Word/law.

God has and will always judge sin - justly!
