SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 30:8-15 * David was told by God to pursue to overtake and recover all. 1 Samuel 30:8 * During the pursuit, David was delayed at the Brook Besor because 200 of his men were too tired to cross the brook and had to be left there. 1 Samuel 30:9-10 * There was another delay when they found the Egyptian in the field. 1 Samuel 30:11-13 * They stopped to give him food and water; they also waited for him to finish eating and drinking and then they questioned him. * Even if they had hurried away, they would probably be hurrying in the wrong direction because they did not know where the Amalekites were. * Hurrying in the wrong direction is worse than delay.. * Pursuing with purpose means knowing the direction is more important than how fast we pursue. * Abraham WAITED and allowed Lot to pick first even though he was the older. Genesis 13:8-9 * Lot rushed and chose what LOOKED good but he did not know it was occupied by people who were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord. Genesis 13:10-13 * Lot hurried in the wrong direction - he should have taken his time to find oud out more about the plain of Jordan before he chose it. * Of the 3 sons of Zeruiah, Joab the oldest was a general in the army of David, Abishai was also a warrior and commander in the army but Asahel was a runner. 2 Samuel 2:18 * After the death of Saul there was a war between the house of Judah (David) and the house of Benjamin (Saul). * Abner was Saul's general and he was being pursued by Asahel. 2 Samuel 2:19 * Abner counseled Asahel to get an armor because he knew when Asahel caught up with him, there would be a fight. 2 Samuel 2:21-22 * Asahel did not listen to the advice of Abner and Abner struck him with the blunt end of his spear and killed him. 2 Samuel 2:23 * Asahel pursued to his death because he did not pursue Abner with purpose - he was not equipped to overcome Abner and recover. * We must run or pursue with purpose so that we can recover all. 1 Corinthians 9:24 * The world's best athletes run with purpose - they know the finish point and pace themselves for long-distance races. 1 Corinthians 9:25 * We must run or pursue with certainty - not with uncertainty. 1 Corinthians 9:26-27 * Jesus said it is ok to "sit down first" before pursuing a building project or a war. Luke 14:28-32 To schedule appointment, please send text to 301.442.4583 OR Email: appointment@agapelifeonline.org Thanks, Pastor George
