17 Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word. 18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law. 19 I am a stranger in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me. 20 My soul breaks with longing For Your judgments at all times. 21 You rebuke the proud—the cursed, Who stray from Your commandments. 22 Remove from me reproach and contempt, For I have kept Your testimonies. 23 Princes also sit and speak against me, But Your servant meditates on Your statutes. 24 Your testimonies also are my delight And my counselors.

I. REWARDS THE SOLICITOR

Psalm 119:17 NKJV
17 Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word.
Notice what the psalmist is implying. Through his petition, he is informing those in his day and we that are reading his words today that God will deal fully or adequately with His servants or worshiper. The psalmist is able to make this request because God has dealt abundantly before. In other words, God is good. In Exodus 34:6, the LORD passed before Moses and proclaimed on the holy mount that
Exodus 34:6 NKJV
6 And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,
The goodness of God is shown in His mercy, grace, and patience.

I am glad I know that God is good

Psalm 103:8–13 NKJV
8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. 9 He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. 10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; 12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. 13 As a father pities his children, So the Lord pities those who fear Him.

I’m glad I know that God is good

Nehemiah 9:17 NKJV
17 They refused to obey, And they were not mindful of Your wonders That You did among them. But they hardened their necks, And in their rebellion They appointed a leader To return to their bondage. But You are God, Ready to pardon, Gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, Abundant in kindness, And did not forsake them.
I’m glad I know that God is good and that He reward those who solicit Him.
Psalm 116:5 NKJV
5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; Yes, our God is merciful.
David said in
Psalm 13:6 NKJV
6 I will sing to the Lord, Because He has dealt bountifully with me.
such a way that I may live in accordance to Your Word.

II. REMOVES THE SCALES

Psalm 119:18–20 NKJV
18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law. 19 I am a stranger in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me. 20 My soul breaks with longing For Your judgments at all times.
Look at what the psalmist ask for in the text. He asked the LORD to open his eyes or enlighten him so that God’s law will reveal the wondrous things that are contained within. He does not want God’s commandments to be hid from him because his soul longs for God’s righteous judgments.
The psalmist is letting us know that his God is able to remove the scales from our eyes.
Paul also prayed for the church of Ephesus
