Read
The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham:
Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.
Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez was the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram.
Ram was the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon.
Salmon was the father of Boaz by Rahab, Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse.
Jesse was the father of David the king. David was the father of Solomon by Bathsheba who had been the wife of Uriah.
Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asa.
Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah.
Uzziah was the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah.
Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, and Amon the father of Josiah.
Josiah became the father of Jeconiah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.
After the deportation to Babylon: Jeconiah became the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel.
Zerubbabel was the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor.
Azor was the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud.
Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob.
Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, who is called the Messiah.
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations.

What? I know right, what just happened there. Well, it is probably the part many of us skip in the Christmas story about the birth of Christ and that is the genealogy of Jesus. What? I know right? What is a genealogy and why do I have to read it and why is it important and why, why, why? I know right? Well, that’s what were here for today, we are going to talk about this really awkward part of the Bible that most of us skim at best and flat out skip at worst, but if we don’t take the time to really take a look we miss out on something pretty special, so let’s take a look.

1. Family history

i. Line of Aaron - Levites or priests
2. To the Jew it meant succession
“When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom.
“He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

B. Why read them
1. Find out interesting things
a. Watch the Bible tie itself together

i. Kinda a quick interlude to the story of Joseph
2. See where Jesus/people come from
a. Jesus Heritage, written thousands of years before
b. Seeing Jesus came from Adam, Abraham, David
3. See the prophesy come to life
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”

There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.

B. God used imperfect people
1. Jesus comes from a long list of sinners
a. Not about the people
b. About God’s work in them
but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,
2. No one is better than the other
Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.
a. God loves all
b. We are all created in his image
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
c. So He brought His son in the same image

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.

Conclusion:
So, now your what, has become your whoa! That’s right, genealogies hold a ton of historical and spiritual significance. It was so important to prove the prophesy’s true, it was important to establish the claims of the disciples that Jesus was the son of David and it was so important to see that Jesus really was one of us, fully man as well as set apart as fully God. He had a beginning, he established his will and made it known to be true. Therefore, if God can establish this through men then He has surely secured our salvation. Finally this is proof positive that not only are the prophesies of God true and reliable, it means His whole Word is true and reliable and therefore, my faith is no longer blind but bound to a Truth that cannot be undone.
