1 Corinthians 2:6-16

Introduction

Human wisdom will keep believers from godly wisdom, and from spiritual growth and unity.

Godly wisdom is for the mature.  (2:6a)

Mature (teleios) perfect, complete

This wisdom is for all Christians.  (Ephesians 1:7-9)

1A.      God’s Wisdom Is Hidden From The Natural Man (2:6-9)

1B.      True wisdom comes from God, not man (2:6b)

All human wisdom is passing away

Not even the best and brightest minds can match God’s wisdom.

2B.      God’s wisdom had been hidden through out the ages.  (2:7a)

Mystery (musterion) a sacred secret

3B.      God’s wisdom is reserved for God’s elect (2:7b-9)

God determined to give His chosen people His saving wisdom.

Ø      This wisdom will ultimately lead to our eternal glorification.  (Romans 8:18, 28-30)

Scriptural knowledge is not the same as godly wisdom.  (2:8)

God’s wisdom is simply beyond the scope of natural man.  (2:9a)

Ø      Man’s spiritual blindness is total.

Ø      No amount of “fact finding” and “evidence seeking” will reveal or prove God’s wisdom.

Ø      No amount of “soul searching” will uncover God’s wisdom.

2A.      God’s Wisdom is Divinely Revealed (2:10-16)

1B.      The Holy Spirit has revealed God’s Wisdom in His Word.  (2:10-11)

The Holy Spirit knows God’s thoughts.

The Holy Spirit is one with God.

The Holy Spirit perfectly revealed God’s wisdom in Scripture.

The work of revelation is closed.  (Revelation 22:18-19)

2B.      The Holy Spirit inspired the human authors of the Bible.  (2:12-13)

God’s truth can not be discovered it can only be received.

Only a select group was chosen to record Scripture.

2 Peter 1:21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

The Bible is not only God’s Word it is God’s words.  (2:13)

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

3B.      The Holy Spirit illuminates God’s Word for the believer today.  (2:14-16)

Unbelievers will not receive God’s Word (2:14a; John 5:37-40)

Unbelievers cannot receive God’s Word (2:14b)

Only Believers can understand God’s Word (2:15-16)

Ø      Because the Holy Spirit indwells believers  (2:15)

Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

Ø      Because believers have the mind of Christ

This means to see life from the Savior’s point of view.

Christ opens His Word to us so we can serve Him.

Ø      When .a believer studies God’s Word, God will reveal His truth to that person
