Psalm 91:3 KJV 1900
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, And from the noisome pestilence.
Proverbs 6:5 KJV 1900
5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, And as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
The first three weekends of 2021 have been God ordained, orchestrated, planned.
First Sunday: communion
Second Sunday: Bro. Uzzell - more than just a blessing. Specific feeding took place
Third Sunday: Bro. Dobson - bitter cup taken away and thrown into the pit and a great crystal cup extended - empty and waiting to be filled by us!
We stand here today waiting...
Yet we are not just waiting, we are working and doing everything we know we need to do!
We are concluding a 24 hour, 7 day fast - I am going to challenge us to 14 days of fasting and prayer?
The results of our workday yesterday is staggering!!
Challenge - It WILL stay clean.
If you dirty it, clean it!
If your kids dirty it, clean it!
If anyone dirties it, clean it!
Stop leaving your McD’s trash for someone else to clean up!
The unity
The expectation
The buy-in
We have had times of deep commitment...
We have had times of foundational teaching...
We have had times of prophetic utterance
And today I am going to give you three specific PITFALLS that we are going to intentionally ovoid this year.
In the first three weeks of 2021 we have had the work of the Pastor, Teacher, Evangelist and Prophet and today the office of Pastor again.
(Work of the Apostle has also been in operation this week, behind the scenes.)
First Pitfall
Now, if you just thought, “Wheewww, he’s not talking to me.”… Then I’m probably talking to you!
There is a weird quirk in the natural man...
It is a complex phenomenon really.
An I assure you that if you have not experienced this phenomenon yet, you will!
Scenario: You come to God addicted, mind addlepated by drugs, family falling apart because of affairs, kids rebellious, no job, on parol, fearful that your kids are going to end up in jail...
You paint what ever sad picture you want.
God begin to clean up your life.
Addictions begin to fall away.
Family starts to come together because mom and dad are now under Gods Government.
Feel love for your spouse that you have not felt in years.
There is hope for your family!
Then something happens...
You realize that not only is there hope for your family but there is hope for others as well.
You begin to teach a home bible study.
God uses you even though you have some issues still but you receive a Word of knowledge
Somewhere along the line you find yourself become a little superior...
Second Pitfall
The flesh is so tricky...
This is where you started at in your relationship with God!
I would argue that a self-centered apostolic is worse than a philandering, drug addicted sinner!
Selfishness is a root problem with all people.
How many of you have shoveled your walks at home?
How many wondered if the walks were shoveled at your church?
We are breaking this in the church!
God wants to show you what can happen in your life when you put God first!
People have great memories of fishing Sunday morning with their children…
Great memories of hunting, shopping, golfing on Sunday mornings and wonder what they did wrong when their children mess up...
I don’t may any memories of the Sunday morning fishing bank with my son...
But I tell you what I did this morning with him… We sat in the same room, at the same desk preparing message that we both would deliver today from the same pulpit!
I would not trade a month of Sunday’s best fishing ever for watching my daughter lead worship!
It’s the natural selfishness of your flesh that says I deserve this time, God will understand.
The mind of God says the most important thing I can do for my children is bring them into the House of God!
If you will let him, God will break the selfishness of you natural man!
Third Pitfall
I know… Self Righteousness, Self Centeredness and Entertainment.
If I was a good preacher I would have come up with a Self word right?
Yet this is what God spoke to me this past week - these three pitfalls to guard against.
Look at these words;
entertainment - the act of entertaining
entertain - to hold the attention of, divert or amuse
Breakdown the three words that make up the one word entertainment
Prefix: enter - go into
Suffix: ment - denoting and action or the fulfillment of what came before.
ie: punishment - act of being punished
ie: amazement - the act of being amazed
Root word: tain
entertainment = the act of going into and fulfilling tain
Tain = thin piece of foil applied to the back of a piece of glass to make a mirror.
What do you see when you look into a mirror?
So ENTERTAINMENT = entering into the process of fulfilling yourself!
What you watch is a reflection of who you are!
This generation is entertaining themselves to death!
Entertainment fast along with your food fast!
How are can we ovoid (in some cases clim out) of the pit?
Matthew 17:14–21 KJV 1900
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, 15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. 16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. 17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. 18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Verse 21 has been much discussed...
There is devils that you have to pray and fast more for.
I do not believe that.
1 John 4:4 does not say “…greater is he that is in you that most of what is in the world”
“…greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world”
James 4:7 does not say, “… resist the devil and most of them will flee from you.”
Was it unbelief that Jesus was talking about?
No - byproduct of not praying and fasting!
Jesus was saying that if you deal with the root, your faith will increase.
Why did they have unbelief?
They were living in realm of self!
You want to increase your faith?
You want to challenge the sprint realm?
You want to shake this city?
Deal with your flesh!
How? Though fasting and prayer!!!!
This kind - unbelief, flesh - goes out by prayer and fasting!!!!!
