Just to recap -
This is the account of Noah and the Flood. Noah was a righteous man and he walked with God. He had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.Noah is told to make an ark of gopher wood…It was divided into rooms and pitched inside and out with bitumen or “asphalt,”A window or roof was constructed and a door was placed in the side of the ark. There were three decks: lower, middle, and upper.God tells Noah that He will destroy the entire world with a Flood. God also promises to establish a covenant with Noah and his entire family. Preliminary instructions for their cargo: Noah is to take aboard two of all living creatures (animals and birds: one male and one female), and every kind of food that will be eaten.Noah spends up to 120 years building the ark and preparing his cargo of food. When Noah is 600 years old, God tells him to take his family, two of all unclean animals, and seven of all clean animals and go into the ark. God says that 7 days from now He will send rain for 40 days and 40 nights. All of the animals come to the ark in pairs and take their places inside. God shuts the door!Seven days later (17th day of the 2nd month): All the fountains of the great deep burst open and the floodgates of the sky open. It rains for 40 days and 40 nights.

Evidence for the flood was universal (world-wide) and not just a local flood? (7:19, 20; 8:21; 9:10-17; 2 Peter 3:3-7).The depth of the flood (Gen. 7:19-20)The duration of the flood. The size of the ark.The need for an ark at all.The testimony of Peter (2 Peter. 3:3-7)The purpose of the flood (Gen. 6:5-7, 11-13)The geology of the flood (Psa. 104:6-8)
Basic Arguments for a Global Flood:
Depth of the Flood: One of the most important Biblical arguments for a global Flood is the statement in Genesis 7:19-20:
19 The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered.
20 The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered.
This statement is very significant because it does not take a scientist to realize that if even one high mountain was covered with water the Flood must have been universal: water seeks its own level! The fact that all the mountains were completely covered with water proves that the Flood must have been global in scope.
Duration of the Flood: The Scripture states that the flood waters prevailed for 5 months, and it was seven more months before Noah could disembark in the mountains of Ararat. A flood which lasts over a year implies a universal flood. Otherwise, they could have sailed to dry land and got out and not had to stay on the ark for over a year.Need for an Ark: The whole procedure of constructing such a vessel simply to escape a local flood can hardly be described as anything but foolish. How much more sensible it would have been for God to tell Noah to move to an area that would not have been affected by the Flood. The great numbers of animals of all kinds, and certainly the birds, could easily have moved out also, without having to be stored and tended for a year in the ark! The entire story borders on the ridiculous if the Flood was confined to some section of the Near East. The fact that God brought the animals to the ark implies that there would be no other place of safety from the flood. The Geology of the Flood: Not only did it rain, but according to Genesis 7:11 “all the fountains of the great deep were broken up.” This means the vast subterranean and suboceanic foundations were broken up upon which the antediluvian world rested and the world’s geology was drastically rearranged. Read Psalm 104:6-8 which describes where all the water went after the flood. God pushed great valleys for ocean beds and cause great upheavals in the mountain ranges. The earth was drastically reshaped during and after the flood. The Size of the Ark: The ark, with 95,700 square feet of deck space, could hardly have been designed for a local flood. The Purpose of the Flood: The purpose of the flood was to judge the sinfulness of the entire antediluvian population (Gen. 6:5-7, 11-13). Anything less than a universal flood would not have fulfilled this purpose. And Jesus clearly said that all men who were not in the ark were destroyed by the flood (Luke 17:26-30).
Leaving the Ark 8:6-19The Bible says that the highest mountains were covered by 15 cubits of water. This is half the height of the ark. The ark was safe from scraping bottom at all times. The large mountains, as we have them today, did not exist until after the Flood when the mountains arose and the valleys sank down. (Psalms 104:5-9; Genesis 8:3-8)There is enough water in the oceans right now to cover the earth 8,000 feet deep if the surface of the earth were smooth. The top 3,000 feet of Mt. Everest (From 26,000-29,000 feet) is made up of sedimentary rock packed with seashells and other ocean dwelling animals.Petrified clams in the closed position testify to their rapid burial while they were still alive.

Geological Evidence for a Flood
If the Flood was indeed worldwide then the culminating physical evidence for its occurrence should be geological. The most ambitious of all efforts to cite geological evidence for Noah’s Flood is the relatively recent attempt by the Creation Research Society of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the Institute for Creation Research Society of San Diego, California. While not all creation geologists agree to the propositions put forward by these two societies, there are several geological phenomena that point to a worldwide Flood:
Large Caches of Animal Bones: Scattered throughout the world in various places are large caches of animal bones in what geologists call “rubble drift in ossiferous fissures.” Rubble drift is a kind of deposit in such fissures apparently placed there by water during the disruption in which the rents occurred. Such fissures have been found in England, France, southern Spain, Germany, Russia, and other countries. The interesting thing about them is that many are filled with bones of such animals as elephants, rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, reindeer, horses, pigs, and oxen. The skeletons are not intact. They have been ripped apart. But the bones are not scattered. They are thrown together in almost unbelievable profusion. It is a final interesting feature of such deposits that they usually occur on isolated hills of considerable height. On the island of Cerigo, near Corfu, there is a mountain called the mountain of bones. The area involved is a mile in circumference at the base, and from base to summit it is literally covered with skeletons. In the northwest corner of Nebraska there is a hill on which a bone bed was discovered in 1876. It is estimated that the bones of about 9,000 complete animals are buried on this one hill.
Large Inland Bodies of Water: The existence of large inland bodies of water and the remains of such bodies, called fossil lakes, is best explained by the Flood. Today much of this water is gone, but at one time there were vast inland seas on literally every continent. The area of China now known as the great Gobi desert was once an inland lake of a size comparable to the present Mediterranean.
Coal Beds and Oil Fields: Much or even all of the coal beds and oil fields could have been created at one time through the burial of large quantities of vegetable and animal matter by Flood activity. The water canopy covering the earth would have provided the perfect climate for the growth of the vast amount of plant material needed to created them.Mammoth Bodies in Siberia: The mammoth was a member of the elephant family. It was larger than a normal elephant, standing twelve to thirteen feet high at the shoulder, and was covered with a thick coat of long coarse, black hair. Its tusks could be nine or ten feet long and measure two-and-a-half feet around the base. Each one weighed on the order of 180 to 200 pounds, as compared with the 40 pound tusks of an average elephant today. The mammoth roamed over most of North America and nearly the whole of Europe. It was particularly abundant in northern Asia. It is almost impossible to exaggerate the number and distribution of the mammoth remains in northern Asia, particularly Siberia. Whole areas are filled with fossil bones. One island, Lachov, is said to be composed almost entirely of bones. In other areas, not merely bones but whole animals—bones, skin, tusks, hair, and all—are preserved so thoroughly that the creatures seem lifelike even today. Moreover, a surprising number of mammoth carcasses and skeletons have been discovered in an upright, standing position, just how they lived. Experts estimate that as many as five million of these creatures may have perished all at one time. The best explanation for how this could have occurred is a worldwide Flood.
