VISION AND MISSION
Vision = who
Mission = what
Love = why
Acts = how
My vision for Allegan Bible Church is to be a church who is utterly sold out for the gospel of Christ. Fully commited to following Him whatever that means for you and your family living in harmony with the rest of the body of believers. That ABC would be a church characterized by real true Bible preaching but more then that real true gospel changed and directed lives that make an impact for His kingdom with everyday eternity in mind. I see this being fulfilled in us as we seek to live out the great 2 commandments in tangible ways.
This series is about casing a vision for you… to show you what I see, to help you see it for yourself and to wet your appetite for it… to long for it and strive after it together...
We have talked about the vision of a spirit filled church made up of spirit filled people who are seeking after God.
We have talked about the message of grace that saves, sanctifies and seals His people for himself.
In short we have discussed the who we want to be and the what our message is...
Today is the why… why should you be longing for this… why should we pursue this… why should we all be working toward this vision… It has to be more then just because pastor says so… Today I want to show you the why, are you ready for the why?

Paul McCartney & John Lennon … (All You Need Is Love)
The world needs love. Jesus told us to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind—Matthew 22:37. Then to love our neighbor as ourselves. Paul explains the meaning of Christian love in 1 Corinthians 13.
1 Corinthians 13:2–3 ESV
2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:13 ESV
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Big Idea of the Message: God’s Love saved you and has the power to save others through you.
Application Point: I will be a believer characterized by real biblical love of God and neighbor.
Love is Personal
Love is Proved
Love is Perfect
Love is Powerful
1 John 4:7–21 ESV
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 19 We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

MESSAGE

Love is not silent, Love is not still, Love ACTS!
Luke 10:25–29 ESV
25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

LOVE IS PERSONAL

1 John 4:7–10 ESV
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
From God to Us
From us to God
From us to Each Other
-------------------------------------
The Exhortation (v. 7a)—“Beloved, let us love one another.”
Salvation—v. 7. God is love. If we “live in Christ” we will love others. Such love will cause us to love even our enemies. The natural man does not love his enemies. The spiritual man loves his enemies, and never seeks to get even.
The Demonstration (vv. 7b, 8).
The presence of love in one’s life demonstrates that he knows God (v. 7b).
The failure of a person to exhibit love in his life demonstrates that he “does not know God” (v. 8).
Separation—v. 8. Those who don’t love, don’t know God in a personal way. If ALL men loved God, we would have no wars.
The Motivation—God’s Love (vv. 9, 10).
The visibleness of God’s love (v. 9).
Sacrifice—v. 9. God not only said He loved man—He proved it by sending His only Son to die upon the cross. We show our love toward man by our actions—not our words.
The greatness of God’s love (v. 10). The greatness of the divine love is indicated in at least four ways:
It is seen in the greatness of the gift which love prompted God to bestow on us: “his only begotten Son” (v. 9).
The greatness of the divine love is seen in the purpose of the Son’s mission: “that we might live through him” (v. 9).
The greatness of God’s love is brought out by a consideration of the recipients of His love: “he loved us” (v. 10a).
The greatness of God’s love is seen in the propitiatory of Christ’s death. God sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins (v. 10b).
Saviour—v. 10. “In this act we see what real love is: it is not our love for God, but His love for us when He sent His Son to satisfy God’s anger against our sins”—LB.

LOVE IS PROVED

1 John 4:11–16 ESV
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
By God to Us

By Us to God
-------------------------------
The Obligation (v. 11)
The character of the obligation (v. 11).
The claim of the obligation (v. 11).
Practice—v. 11. Since God loved us, we should love others. We can only love others as God lives within us, and controls us.
Love Fulfills Two Functions (v. 12):
It is the visible evidence that God dwells in us (v. 12a; cf. John 13:34, 35).
John 13:34–35 ESV
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
When we practice love, His (God’s) love is “perfected in us” (v. 12b).
Perfection—v. 12. God’s love is perfected in us, if we love one another. Lack of God’s love in the life means a lack of love.
Power—v. 13. “And He has put His own Holy Spirit into our hearts as a proof to us that we are living with Him and He with us”—LB. Being filled with the Spirit will cause us to love others. - Rom 8.16 - His spirit cries with our spirit = children
Proof—v. 14. God sent the Savior into the world as proof of His great love toward us.
Personality—vv. 15–16. We can have the personality of God by having Christ’s love within us.

LOVE IS PERFECT

1 John 4:17–21 ESV
17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 19 We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.
In Himself
In Us
In Spite of Us
-----------------------------
Love’s Perfection in Relation to Self (vv. 17, 18).
It causes us to have boldness in the day of judgment (v. 17).
Freedom—v. 17. We are free from sin and need not fear the judgment of God—John 5:24.
It casts out fear (v. 18).
Fearless—v. 18. There is no fear when we love God. Fear brings torment. Those with God’s love have no fear—they trust God.
Love’s Perfection in Relation to Others (vv. 19–21).
The principle of love (v. 19).
Fellowship—v. 19. “So you see, our love for Him comes as a result of loving us first”—LB. What great love!
The profession of love (v. 20).
Falseness—v. 20. If we cannot love our brother, whom we have seen, how can we love God, whom we haven’t seen?
The proof of love (v. 21).
Faithfulness—v. 21. Faithful in our love toward God, and love toward our brother.

LOVE IS POWERFUL

See God through Love
Outlines for Growing Christians 33. God’s Great Love (1 John 4:13–21)

There is no way of measuring God’s love. However, we can see the power of God’s love. God has shown His love from the beginning of creation. If Christ lives in us we will have God’s love, and we will love as He loved. Love will cause us to (1) serve, (2) surrender, (3) sacrifice. As love caused Christ to give His life it will cause us to give all we have.
