We have to answer 3 questions this morning:
            What is a “Sabbath”?
Is it still in effect?
What do we do as a result?
Sabbath
            Made Holy by God for he stopped

2.      Day of Rest (Farm principle of Sabbath was 6years, with a rest
-          Predates the Commandments look at chapter 16 – to the Lord
-          But is more than that – Dt. 5 – idea of a rememberance of the Exodus
-          Lasting covenant – Ch 31
 
Effect?
Sign between God and the Israelites
            Part of the covenant – Notice this is a conditional covenant Ch 18, The 10 laws are spoken of as the covenant (Ex 34:28)
            Indication of an importance of more
            Leviticus 23 – The first day after the Sabbath
            Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2)
            Instituter of the New Covenant – (Which Jesus connects his death to the Passover)
            And the fulfillment that God will repair the damaged old Covenant (Jeremiah 31 & Hebrews 8)
 
What about us?
            Paul says not required to hold to a Sabbath (Colossians 2:13-17)
                        Greater Rest and Worship is in Christ
                        John 4 – Life style worship
Church Pattern is to celebrate the Redemption (The Big Exodus) of the Resurrection
No command to rest, though practically speaking there is a need for it, we shall discuss in November
We await the greater Sabbath (Hebrews 4)
