Joshua 24:14–15 ESV
14 “Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Therefore...

Since Joshua has gathered the people together (1)
Because Joshua had a Word from the Lord.(2)
Because God had called them when they were enemies. (3)
Because God had led their forefathers. (4)
Because God sent them a light in Egypt (5)
Because God delivered from Egypt. (6)
Because God brought darkness on their oppressors (7)
Because God destroyed their enemies before them (8-10)
Because God gave them a land and the plunder of the land. (10-12)
Because the received places that they did not have to fully build and fields they did not toil over. (13)
Romans 5:8 ESV
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Because He loved us enough to die for us while we were in opposition to Him.
John 15:13–16 ESV
13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
Because He loved and chose us before we came to Him.
Colossians 1:21 ESV
21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds,
Romans 5:10 ESV
10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
Because we were enemies and hostile towards the Lord and He still sent Jesus.
Romans 8:17 ESV
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
We have an inheritance.
We have a promise.
We have been adopted.
So as we can see our undeserved connection and relationship paralleled from the OT to the NT.

Lay Aside the Old for the New

Joshua 24:14 ESV
14 “Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
Sometimes we have to lay aside our traditions, even those inherited.
We have to cling to something/someone new.
Sincerity-No lip service here.
No games
Serve the Lord!!!!

Choose Your Path

Joshua 24:15 ESV
15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
If it is not right to go towards the Lord?
Go your way...
Whether it is your ancestry
Whether it is something new...
But stick with that...
Joshua is clear, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”!!!!
