When The Bridegroom Is Missing From Your Life—You Should Consider Fasting!

Matthew 9:14–15 NASB95
Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “The attendants of the bridegroom cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
I. The DEFINITION needs to be EXPLAINED to us!
Matthew 9:14 NASB95
Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”
*To FAST means To Not Eat and or To Do Without
*Whenever we are “Doing Without” it can be observable to others but it should not be done so that it will be noticeable to others!
Matthew 6:1 NASB95
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 9:14 NASB95
Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”
II. The DESIRE to fast should be EXPLORED by us!
Matthew 9:15 NASB95
And Jesus said to them, “The attendants of the bridegroom cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Fasting, or doing without food is something that is not natural to us, so whenever we sense a prompting in our spirit to fast, or we have lost the Presence of the Bridegroom (Jesus), in our daily life, it might be a good time to explore the desire to fast or to do without something in our life for spiritual purposes!
III. The DISCIPLINE to fast should be EMBRACED by us!
A. Fasting prepares our BODY for SUBMISSION
1 Corinthians 9:27 NASB95
but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
B. Fasting prepares our SOUL for TRANSFORMATION
Romans 12:2 NASB95
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
We are a SPIRIT being, we have a SOUL, and we dwell in a BODY
Our spirit is where God comes to dwell the moment we are born again or born from above. Holy Spirit comes and mingles within our Human Spirit so that two become One!
Our SOUL is comprised of our mind, our emotions (heart), and our will operates from our soul. Our soul (mind and heart), must be transformed and the only way this occurs is through renewing our mind!
Whenever we are fasting for spiritual purposes, the world system of thinking, feeling and behaving, loses influence over our soul and we stop being conformed to this world and we begin being transformed by renewing our mind!
When we are immersed in God’s Truth, we are in position to experience the Truth rather than reading the Truth, and Truth that we experience transforms us, but Truth that we simply read only makes us more religious and God hates religion!
C. Fasting prepares our SPIRIT for COMMUNICATION
John 4:24 NASB95
“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
1 Corinthians 2:9 NASB95
but just as it is written, Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.”
WHO does God REVEAL spiritual things to?
1 Corinthians 2:10 NASB95
For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.
HOW does God REVEAL spiritual things to us?
1 Corinthians 2:10 NASB95
For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.
WHY does God REVEAL spiritual things to us?
1 Corinthians 2:11–12 NASB95
For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God,
God imparts DREAMS and or VISIONS to US!
Daniel 1:17 NASB95
As for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in every branch of literature and wisdom; Daniel even understood all kinds of visions and dreams.
Daniel 10:1 NASB95
In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a message was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar; and the message was true and one of great conflict, but he understood the message and had an understanding of the vision.
