Why the Psalms?

The Psalms will assist us in building a spirit of contentment

The Psalms will help us to deepen our prayer lives

The Psalms will give us words to voice our praise.

Tremper Longman suggest that the Psalms are distant to us in three ways:

Historically - the latest Psalm was written almost 2500 years ago.

Culturally - originally addressed to Near Eastern people

Theologically - written before Jesus was born.
