Norman Vincent Peale published The Power of Positive Thinking in 1952. This book stayed on the bestseller list for 186 consecutive weeks. One popular statement of his says, “When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade.”
Peale also said, “A positive mental attitude is a belief that things are going to turn out well, and that you can overcome any kind of trouble or difficulty.”
What I want to talk to you about is far more than just positive thinking. Positive thinking doesn’t make the impossible possible. It is the power of God that makes the impossible possible.

God’s Power

Mary’s question in verse 34 is a natural question to answer: “How can this be?”
God gives evidence of His power to Mary in verse 36. He gives evidence to us as well.
Romans 1:20

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

God gives evidence of His power in His Word.
Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

God’s Provision (Vv. 31-33)

God’s Peace (V. 38)

The same Mary who asked “How can this be?” replies moments later with “Let it be according to your word.” What changed her mind? An encounter with the supernatural power of God.
