A VIEW OF CHRIST

Psalm 22:1-8; 231-6; 24:1-10

As we study Psalm 22 we are given the message of Jesus’ crucifixion ordeal on the cross as He gives His life as our Redeemer. The Psalm penned by David; begins its first line as Matthew 27:46c with Jesus echoing from the cross “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Psalm 22:1 utters “My God, My God why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?”

Here’s the One who was promised; the promised Messiah, had come to the end of His life as the Promised Messiah, the Savior of the world cries out to His Father God because He had felt that He had been abandon. The Word tells us that He was fully human and that He experienced every heart break, disappointment, and abandonment that we also experience.

Let’s go to the Garden of Gethsemane. Before taking that horrified road to Golgotha Hill for the His crucifixion, He told His disciples about the many events that would occur before and after His death on the cross.

He told them that one of His disciple would certainly betray Him. He instituted the Lord’s Supper. He predicted that all the disciples, which included Peter would deny Him when thing got too difficult for them as they observed how the Roman soldiers attacked and arrested Him and had taken Him through a secret, all night trial.

Then He leads them to the Garden of Gethsemane where He prays with a very heavy heart. Again, just before He prays, He says to the group “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me trice.” (Mark 14:30) He was speaking to Peter.

“And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.”

And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to very heavy;

And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

And he said, Abba, Father, all thing are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but thou wilt.

And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.

And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.

And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of the sinners.

Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.” (Mark 14:32-42)

So, back to Psalm 22:1-8 now where David reports the conversation Jesus had with His Father God as He was giving His life for our eternal salvation, as He carried the burden of the cross for our sins. He made an urgent request to the Father as He hanged on that cross on our behalf...

Our Savior the Promised Messiah had to suffer, we heard the saying “no pain-no gain.” We have to go through oftentimes; if we didn’t have to journey down highways and byways in this life being faced with sometimes illness, lost of jobs, empty bank account, empty pantries and the list could go on and on.

But we must always remember what the Word of God reminds us to help sustain us. “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the sea of the scornful. But his delight is in the law if the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the river of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall poster. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” (Psalm 1 )

We’re blessed when we obey, recall and follow the Word and allow it to guide us throughout our daily lives. (79 A Picture of Christ)

When we’re felling as though we’re unable to move onward; let’s remember what our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ experienced and had to endure to save us from a burning hell. He’s our suffering Savior, our Messiah.

The One who is the the Chief Shepherd. When we consider the requirements of a shepherd, the duty of the shepherd is mentioned early in Genesis 4:2b “Able was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground.”

Psalm 23:4 tells us that the shepherds carried a staff or a rod. In leading the sheep the shepherds would go before and lead them seeking out good pasture for them, making sure that their numbers remained the same. They made sure that none got lost as they went from pasture to pasture. The shepherds watched over the sheep by night, defending them when attacked by any wild beasts.

Psalm 23:1-6 says this about the Shepherd that cares for the flock.

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; they rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”

He is the Sovereign Savior, apostle Paul reports that Christ, “In Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily”—Colossians 2:9 says “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily.” (ESV) God, Father Son, Holy Spirit. He’s Sovereign.

Psalm 24:1-10 utters:

The earth is the LORD’s and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it u[on the floods.

Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart, who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and the righteousness from the God of his salvation.

This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek his face, O Jacob. Selah.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of of glory shall cone in.
