Unto Us a Child is Born

Isaiah 9:1–2 NKJV
Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed, As when at first He lightly esteemed The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, And afterward more heavily oppressed her, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, In Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined.
Isaiah 9:6–7 NKJV
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

We are living in a time of deep spiritual darkness

Christmas is a season of light. People put them on their homes, on their trees, in their businesses, and throughout the city. Yet our world is growing darker than ever before.
We are living in a time of deep spiritual darkness
Isaiah 9:2a NKJV
The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined.
This darkness is caused by our disobedience to God
Deuteronomy 28:28–29 NKJV
The Lord will strike you with madness and blindness and confusion of heart. And you shall grope at noonday, as a blind man gropes in darkness; you shall not prosper in your ways; you shall be only oppressed and plundered continually, and no one shall save you.
People are stumbling in the darkness around them
Natural darkness is the absence of natural light.
Spiritual darkness is the absence of spiritual light.
They are stumbling around in the darkness of spiritual and moral deception
They are stumbling around in the darkness of sin
They are living in deception, disappointment, disillusionment, and death
They do not have the light.
They do not have the light of the knowledge of God
They do not know the ways of God
They do not know the God who is Light

There is a desperation in the land

We sense in it the hearts
We sense it in the homes
We sense it in the cities
We sense it in the streets
We sense it in the government
We even sense it in the church
Those in darkness are crying out:
“What is going on?”
“How did we get here?”
“Something has to change!”
“Who is to blame?”
“Is there any hope?”
“Who will save us?”

God’s answer to our darkness is the gift of His Light

Isaiah 9:2 NKJV
The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined.
This speaks of spiritual light, the light of hope and truth.
People today are looking for hope and spiritual reality.
They are tired of being pacified.
They are tired of being lied to.
They are tired of the hypocrisy.
They want to know the truth.
They want to know what is real.
They want to build their lives on something that cannot be shaken.

The gift of God’s Light has come to us in the gift of His Son

Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 1:4–5 NKJV
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 8:12 NKJV
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Jesus, as the Light of the world, has come to establish His kingdom

Isaiah 9:7 NKJV
Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Colossians 1:12–13 NKJV
giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
In darkness there is disorder. In His kingdom there is order.
In darkness there is chaos. In His kingdom there is peace.
In darkness there is lawlessness and anarchy. In His kingdom there is government.
In darkness truth is subjective. In His kingdom truth is absolute.
In darkness justice is determined by man’s standard. In His kingdom justice is determined by God’s standard.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish God’s purpose

We must choose between Jesus and the darkness of our sin

John 3:17–21 NKJV
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
God sent the Light of His Son into the darkness of our lives

Will you continue walking in the darkness of your sin or will you follow Jesus Christ?
