Luke 15:11–32 CSB
He also said, “A man had two sons. The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate I have coming to me.’ So he distributed the assets to them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living. After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he had nothing. Then he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. He longed to eat his fill from the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one would give him anything. When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have more than enough food, and here I am dying of hunger! I’ll get up, go to my father, and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired workers.” ’ So he got up and went to his father. But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father told his servants, ‘Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Then bring the fattened calf and slaughter it, and let’s celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate. “Now his older son was in the field; as he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. So he summoned one of the servants, questioning what these things meant. ‘Your brother is here,’ he told him, ‘and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’ “Then he became angry and didn’t want to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him. But he replied to his father, ‘Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your assets with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’ “ ‘Son,’ he said to him, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ ”
Now this passage is a long one but it is one that was worth the read because we all have been both of the sons in this sorry. We will see one which son you chose to be as we break this down.
Open in Prayer

The Reckless Son

This is the younger son that starts off by demanding for his part of the estate. which is his inheritance that he would receive when his father would retire or pass away. but instead he wants it now. Then he goes off that spends all of it on recklessness and drunkeness. He Ends up so poor that he start to work for someone that grows pigs. he is so poor that he want to eat what the pigs are eaten because he can not afford food. From there on he goes and besides that living with his father as a servant would be better than the way he's living so he goes out and he moves to go back to his father's house

The Helpful Son

Next we move to the helpful sun now this is the sunset didn't take his inherited instead he stayed and worked in the fields with the servants and busted his butt to make sure his father was taken care of. But we see that when he finds out his little brother comes home he gets very upset. He feels that he's treated unfairly that he works for nothing while his little brother who ran off with money get everything. We see that later on he goes and he freaks out to his dad about why he never got a party or he never got anything while his younger brother but trades them and gets everything.

The Father

And our final character we run into here in this passage is the father now we see that he loves his two boys and he cares about them to the point where he gives younger son the inheritance. But the way we prove that he loves them and the way we can see that type of love is when the younger boy comes home and rather than rebuke Kim or correct him he give him his finest robe he throws a giant feast for him. But then he goes into something that makes everything seemed so profound as he's talking to the older brother he tells the other brother that you've been with me this whole time and I've treated you good for that but your brother was lost but now he's found so we're celebrating the fact that he was dead but now he's alive again.

Which son are you

Now that we have gone through each character of this parable the big question that comes to mind is OK So what does this have to do with us why Jesus talks to us and explain this to us. There are a couple things that we will look at here as we are looking at it the first thing, we're going to look at is we are either one of these sons when it comes back to going to God.
First thing I want to point out is if you look at both sons, they both fall into sin at some point in time the younger son falls into sin where he runs off and does his reckless wildlife and everything like that and then the older brother get angry and jealous because of the things the way the father treats him so they both found the sin.
But when you are looking at this and you are looking at the two sons, you are going to start to notice maybe we are too much alike these sons that we know. See when we first accept Jesus and we first start following God and we pray to God and stuff how quick are we just demand that everything be good in our life. And when we do not get it from God the first thing, we start to do is we jump into our worldly desires because that is where it makes us feel good. But how long until that feel good does not feel good anymore or that high is just not as good as it was before, so we must get a little higher the next time. That is what the younger son did, and you look at it and this happens to us so frequently we must get broken down to our lowest before we are willing to accept that God is the one with the plan for us.
Now some of you might be saying no I am not that kind of guy what you might not be but then are you the older son who also falls into sin because we serve God faithfully, we work hard with God and were there and we are doing everything we are supposed to and then the first thing out of her mouth is we get jealous and we say why is God loving everybody why is God taking care of everybody. How much do we fall into it when we are doing that?
what is profound about that is what the father does and what Jesus was trying to tell him and he sits down and he tells the older son you are faithful to me and I will treat you good and I will remember you for that but your younger brother was dead lost and his transgressions this is so important for us because it shows us God's love Jesus talking about God's love here because whether you're the younger son of the older son at some point in time you will turn your back on God the father and you will you will desire for that love to come back into your life you'll desire for him to come back and pull you back. Now some of us might be struggling and some of us might be having a trouble but the best answer I can give you is like the younger son go back to your father who is going to take care of you we need to go back to God we as a nation need to turn back to God, we as young adults need to turn back to God to the father who will take care of us.
