Part 2: A Way Made Ready
Mark 1:1-8
- Mark 1:2, “… I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way…”
- "Advent” means “coming."
1.) Go To The Wilderness.
- Mark 1:3, “…a voice of one calling in the desert,”
- Deuteronomy 8:2-3, “Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and test you… He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with Manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”
2.) Hear The Message.
- Mark 1:4, “And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”
- Repentance is a “change of mind”, an “about-face.”
- Hebrews 12:1-2, "Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles… Let us fix our eyes on Jesus…"
3.) Model The Way.
- Mark 1:7, "And this was His message: 'After me will come one more powerful than I…’”
- John 3:30, “He must become greater; I must become less.”
- Mark 1:14, “After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.”
