Trust in the Lord

Proverbs 3:5

VERSE:  (5) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart … and he shall direct thy paths.

Introduction/Porch

As we journey in life we develop trust in some many things or people other than God.  As a child, our first instinct is to trust our mother.  Our mother is the first person we hear and feel since our inception and while she nurtures us in the womb of her belly.  We can hear the rhythmic palpations of her heart as it drives the fluid of life into our developing bodies.  We can hear the soothing sounds of her voice as she talks to other and her unborn child in her.  After birth, we start develop trust for our fathers, brother, sisters, grandparent, and other family members and friends.  As we journey in life our people may loose our trust or gain our trust.  During our lives we have put our trust in some many things, such as.

o   Parents

o   they will be there to raise, teach, nurture, and spend time with us for our entire lives

o   Help you throw school

o   That they love you and won’t harm you in any way

o   Family

o   No matter what we do, we expect them to support us and have our backs.

o   Phrase – blood is thicker than water…

o   Friends

o   They will be there for you during the thick and thin

o   The people who know what you do when you go out and won’t judge you for your wrong doing

o   If you gotta brawl, you’ll know they’ll be right there taking blows or giving them

o   That person would be your best-man or maid of honor at your wedding

o   Give you five dollars if you need it.

o   Spouses/Girl or boyfriends

o   That person would be your first, your last, your everything – Barry White

o   Won’t cheat on you

o   Support and help build you when you’re down

o   Give you what you need when you need it…

o   Be a partner in raising your children, if you have some

o   Children

o   That they love you and will never forsake you

o   That they’ll be obedient and honor you

o   That they will be honest

o   That they’ll be there fore you when you get old

o   Jobs

o   It will provide the check you expect will be there

o   It will be there and not going away

o   Reliable

o   Money

o   That it will take care of your needs

§  Happiness, financial, and recreational

o   One day be overflowing

These are examples of trust we put into things or people that we believe will always be there in our journey of life.  Do you trust in those things, if not, where does your trust lie and where is it taking you?

Sermon

Proverbs is a book that was written by Solomon, the son of David.  When Solomon was younger, God asked him what he wanted, Solomon said he wanted to be wise.  God gave him this desire and blessed him with wisdom more than he thought he could have.  This verse was written by the wisest man that ever lived, but it wasn’t Solomon’s but the God, with infinite wisdom, who divinely inspired Solomon to write this verse of scripture that has transcended through time for us to apply in our lives.

Proverbs is used to ask many life questions, such as:

1.    What is God's will for my life?

2.    How can I be a wiser Christian?

3.    What should I teach my children?

4.    What is wrong with this generation?

5.    How can I be happy and successful?

6.    What kind of woman (or man) should I marry?

7.    How can I defeat sexual temptation?

8.    Why do I have money problems?

9.    What are the priorities of a godly life?

10.                       How should I treat others?

11.                       How can I get ahead on the job?

Olive wood was used for Solomon’s temple (1 Kin. 6:23, 31–33), and olive branches formed booths for feast days (Neh. 8:15).  An olive tree does not bear fruit until its fifteenth year, but it grows for hundreds of years
